I own a welsh part bred who went down with metabolic lami last year. He has been back in work for just under a year now, and is working quite hard. He is worked 6 days a week schooling 4 of them for up to 50 mins elementary/low level medium, and hacks up to 2 hrs twice a week. His energy levels are fine at home, but when he goes out competing he looses his energy very quickly. He has soaked hay, 4-5 hrs restricted grazing, and a cup and a half of blue chip lami light for breakfast and tea. Is there anything I can give him for a little boost before shows? that is 100% safe for him to eat. Thanks

Mine gets fast fibre and speedibeet - we alternate bags as due to her cushings she gets fed up of them from time to time so goes off her feed. She also gets micronised linseed, soaked hay in the day and a bareish paddock at night. She is absolutely high as a kite.
I have found that small quantities of oats are ok as long as the quantity is small enough that the starch is digested in the stomach and small intestine so it doesn't reach the hindgut (think mugfull). Bear in mind that my pony is very sensitive and I don't even feed lami light as it spoils her feet so she would soon tell me if the oats were a problem.
