Can that person advertise??

I don't see why they can't advertise.

To clarify my situation. I have (and do when I can) train with two dressage riders. One who trains and competes in the US, the other who was a member of the Junior British Dressage Squad on their Sunshine tour a few years ago, and still competes at senior level.

Yes! I have just started having fortnightly jumping lessons with my YOs son, who also happens to be one of the up and coming BSJA young riders.

Yes...two instructors I use the most have no teaching qualifications, but they give fantastic lessons and always get the best from me and my horse.

Yes, my best instructor didn't have any BHS qualifications but was brilliant. So long as they can teach though as some people can ride brilliantly but can't teach and some people aren't brilliant riders but can teach.

Yes- I think is good to find a trainer who rides at a good/top level within your preferred discipline. For example, theres a lot of top riders who teach but don't necessarily have teaching qualifications however they have the practical experience which counts for a lot and can do more than '' talk a good ride''!!..

Yup! MY trainer is a professional Eventer who has competed at all levels (including going clear at Burghley last summer!) - I think nothing beats being taught by someone who actually RIDES and knows horses inside out. She is "taught" by Lucinda Green, so I think that's quite good enough for me!

I would have lessons with someone who isnt BHS qualified. I have had some horrible instructors over the years and even though they were qualified i would dread the lessons and sometimes come home in tears. I'm lucky that i have met some fantastic people along the way who have taught me loads and given me the confidence to do more.
