Was having some problems with Bud and mainly my confidence levels, he was reacting to this and playing me up, last straw was him rearing up last week as I was trying to turn him out and sending me flying into the mud, yet another altercation with the electric fence

damn horse, he cantered off bucking/farting, I was laid on the grass thinking "hope I'm not hurt"

Went away last weekend and put things into perspective and after a few stern talks from friends came to the conclusion if I toughend up my act and made ME the boss then maybe we'd reach an understanding.

Am pleased to report this week I have alternated between lunging and riding and yes, he has produced some lovely promising work, my confidence levels are now returning and I'm just so pleased that I persevered and didn't give up on him or myself. (Came very close to throwing the towel in and contemplating cross stitching for a hobby instead)!!!

A pointless post, but a milestone for me, my confidence levels are up and down like a yoyo, very inconsistent but can't be helped.

Good for you!!

So glad things are looking up for you know...it's also amazing what a stern talking to yourself does too!!!
Was aslo seriously contemplating giving Chloe back...infact, we even told her now old owners that we were going to.....but time told me that I shouldn't, so I didn't.

Keep us updated, hope you are okay from your fall!!

Well done you!!

I have been through similar to you but now my confidence is on top of the world.

You will be there very soon. You are doing well. Have you thanked your friends for their stern words?

Well done...keep positive and keep riding, be firm but fair and you will be fine I am sure. All horses can be difficult at times and we have to try to ride through that for the better days...not easy though at times!

PHEW!
I did think at one stage I was gonna have to come round with a big stick and beat you with it lol
You do sometimes have to take a step back and look at the bigger picture. There are times when i have doubted my riding, my ability and why my horses are acting up.
Because the weather and the daylight hours havent been great I had to lunge and ride every other day, so one horse was lunge and the other ridden and then i would swap it round the following day.
These last few months I have been struggling with two very feisty horses! one bucking all the time and the other so sharp!
I felt like just throwing it all in and turfing the lot in the field and forgetting about them.
But the above meant they were both getting worked daily but without me feeling totally under pressure of riding them both, when i was getting physically tired from work and looking after so many horses before and after work.
Now Ive given myself goals. Something to work too, without getting completely stressed if it doesnt all go according to plan.
Remember hun, youve just moved house and things have all got a little stressful. Now youre more settled the better weather is coming you can concentrate on setting goals for Bud and you.
Maybe box up somewhere and go for a lesson, do something different. Gives you something to look forward too plus something different for Buds buzzy brain. Come over to me, we can go round the park, or come play in my school.
Just got to stay focused more and try not to dwell too much on whats happened in the past.

Thank you all for your kind words, its what makes this forum special that if you feel down, there are many many people out there that have had same experiences etc and many that offer advice/help and hugs.

Had a fab lesson in the school yesterday from another forum member, Bud was a bit fizzy and not really listening as too much going on outside for him to concentrate. Instead we started doing some new party tricks lol, shoulder in, turn on the haunches and turn on the forehand, now that he had something to think about he instantly switched on and became more relaxed and wanting to work. So yesterday finished on a really good note.

Going up to the yard in a while (again) for hopefully a follow up lesson to yesterday and I am actually looking forward to getting back into the saddle so I guess thats a step in the right direction

Tbh for the last few weeks I really haven't known if I've been on a$$ or elbow, what with the house move, getting over fractured knee and trying to fit in day to day life.

Thanx you Vix, will make that a definate date for the summer

will be good to meet you and yours lol.

I've now got him on Hilton Herbs calmer which does seem to be having a desired effect on him, but too early too tell as he's only been on it less than a week. Now I have to work on getting him built up as he really does look scrawny and poor.

Took a video of him working yesterday, if I can find the lead from phone to pc, will try to add it on later.

Again thanx you for supporting me, it means a lot.

Will report how today went later on.

xx

Forgot to add, that yes I have thanked friends that had stern words with me, they are all relieved that I've put my foot down and not given in, but all have whipping sticks at the ready just in case I fall off the positivity wagon again lol !!
