My mare got a bit stressed in the thunder this afternoon and just went to skip out and tuck her in and she's got a gland up!! Just under her jaw on one side. She looks slightly pale and a bit tucked up but nothing I wouldn't expect after getting worried in the weather. I'm just not sure what's caused it. Any ideas?!!!

Thank you!!!

I'm no expert, but my first thought would be strangles. Had a pony once who had it and the first signs were as you described........but please don't panic.......I MIGHT BE WRONG...I'd get the vet to check it out sooner rather than later xxx

I know of a fair few horses including my own who sometimes get a swelling and it is due to some of the pollens about, so it could be as simple as something like a mild allergen, its hard to say without seeing or knowing your horse

hhhmmmm, possibly not.....although if she is showing signs of being under the weather there must be something going on....if it was me i'd have the vet, better to be safe and not worried

hope she's ok xxx

My lad had these come up slightly last yr,when the vet squeezed them he would flinch away as they hurt(i called out vet due to a cough when ridden that just didnt want to shift),turned out that he had had a virus that he was struggling to shift due to the shitty weather

,as we do when we are run down, once the weather picked up and he got abit of sun on his back he was fine

When my vet came to rasp my horse's teeth a few weeks back, he gave the horse a general check over and picked up on swollen glands behind the jaw. He said they were grass glands, nothing to worry about, and he had seen a lot of it this year.

But if the horse is looking unwell or has a temperature then you need to get her checked out.
