My mare got a bit stressed in the thunder this afternoon and just went to skip out and tuck her in and she's got a gland up!! Just under her jaw on one side. She looks slightly pale and a bit tucked up but nothing I wouldn't expect after getting worried in the weather. I'm just not sure what's caused it. Any ideas?!!!

Thank you!!!

Some piggy horses (mine included!) can eat grass at an Olympic level and the constant chewing means that the salivary glands have to work overtime so swell up. I'd expect to see the salivary glands swollen on both sides of the neck if that was the case with your ned. Sort of in the position a horse would have mumps, if you see what I mean. But if you've got any concerns whatsoever, I'd get the vet out straightaway in case it's something worse.

my little 3 year old gets swollen glands under her jaw bones, they are where they would have swellings if they had strangles (which is rather alarming at first) my vets have looked at her on several occasions and reassured me that they are just reactions to either fly bites on her body (she really reacts locally to these also) or it could be just her immune system working over time and reacting to viruses she has yet to build up immunity - the recommendation from vets was to ignore unless she had a raised temp or her membranes looked especially pale. - main thing was to watch, wait and not worry too much - hope this helps - if at all worried I'd speak to your vets
