Hiya, does anyone have any information on Glass Eyes for horses, I can't find anything atall on the internet about the procedure, results, risks, care, cost etc. My vet recently touched on it briefly but I would love more info.

Fathorse - when Sunny had to have an eye removed, I discussed a prosthetic eye with the specialist surgon and he said don't touch it with a 10 foot barge pole. They cause a huge number of problems for the horse, mostly related to recurrent infection. He said if a horse has had to have an eye removed, the only one who wants a glass eye is the owner. The horse doesn't care and has no hang ups about what he looks like. Sunny is as happy as Larry and the only care his empty socket needs is an ocasional wipe round with a warm flannel.

Id just like to back up box_of_frogs really. I have a prosthetic eye and TBH its a pain in the arse!!! Of course its different for humans as looking cosmetically ok is what its all about. However i get lots of reoccuring infections and constantly need eye drops as my eye socket cant clean itsself properly. The thing is its irritating 99%of the time but at least i can tell someone when its hurting whereas a horse cant
