Okay

I hacked Lacey today on the Global Herbs instant super calm and jeeez...Different horse!

She was a bit excited, jogged a little (not much though), was a little strong, when we first trotted it was like WHOO LETS GO, when we cantered at first we went sideways for afew steps until she realised she COULD listen to me and go at my pace..But I didn't feel like she was gonna kill me.

So I'm thinking of putting her on the Global Herbs Supercalm (i.e. the every day one), does anyone know if its just as strong as the insant one?

Thanks

Supercalm is not as strong as the instant but the theory is that it builds up in the system and creates a sustainable level of calmness (does that make sense?) I had a young pony who had been half starved and badly abused. He was scared of his own shadow. I put him on supercalm twice daily and within a week he was much easier to deal with, less spooky and far more trusting of not just me but my friends as well. When we started to ride him I would give him 1/2 sachet of the instant 1 hour before and it really helped him (getting on him was his big issue) after 2 weeks we stopped using it and just kept up the supercalm daily. At one point I changed him to Magic calmer (which a friend highly recommended) and couldn't catch him or get near him for 4 days! I finally gave him a feed with the instant suercalm in and caught him without a fuss within and hour! I really recommend the supercalm - it transformed my pony to the point I was able to find him a lovel home (which was unthinkable when I first rescued him) and he will stay on it now for ever. It is worth calling global herbs, they are really helpful. Good Luck¬

Ooh I see. So after it like builds up, its then as strong as the instant?

Do you think I'd be able to give her the instant for a week or so every day whilst the other one builds up?

I'll give them a ring on Monday but I wanted a bit of an idea.

I can't believe how different she is on this, last time I hacked her in Highclere Park she spent most of it on her back legs or bucking (and her rears aren't small either), the rest of the time she was jogging, I was in tears by the end of it..And today she was just perfect, still excitable, but I like it like that!

Maybe try her on 1/2 sachet if you are giving the normal as well, that is what I did. I don't know that the effect is as strong as the instant but I found that using the 2 togther for a couple of weeks got us over a lot of issues. Even on the normal supercalm he was a different pony, trusting, relaxed and far more controlable. My understanding of the instant is it is like a herbal ACP, I have used it in place of acp for clipping and the like with good effects. I used it to chill out the pony and get trust but didn't want to use it too much for riding as I felt it was like riding a doped pony - which although easier - is not a long term solution. Good luck with your horse, I know what it is like to have something so diffficult you want to cry, when I resuced the boy he was so quiet, he was so thin and beaten that he had no strength to fight, the minute the condition was back on him all the fear, and panic came back. Until I found supercalm I had seriously considered having him pts as I knew I could never sell him on as I feared he would end up starved and beaten again. Now he has a wonderful home for life with friends and is enjoying life to the full.

Yeah..I'm hoping I can slowly take her off it after a few months when it might have sunk into her head you know?

I agree its not really a long term solution.

No reason not to keep her on the daily supercalm in the long term if it chills her out, just probably best to use the instant to get the message through! Good luck

I feel a bit bad of the idea of having her on it all the time though :S

I'm very much a person who believes in schooling rather than any quick fix so I'm a bit of a worrier about this hehe.

Just reread your post and realised you mean the Instant one is more like the ACP, not the long term one.

I hope to one day ride her without them at all, but feel bad about using them in the first place..

Don't feel bad - people use supplements all the time, something to make a coat shine, make a horse move free and in the case of a mare, something to deal with hormones! In your case you were clearly not having any fun riding your girl and that is what this mad hobby of ours is all about

If she (and you) overcome your problems and rebuild the trust then in time take her off it slowly, don't do it all of a sudden as you don't want to be back to square one. It is great that you have found something that can help you along the way and as you said, in the end schooling is the answer but we all need a little help sometimes

I thought I'd ask my mum to slowly reduce the amount after she's been good (ish! haha) for a pretty long time but not tell me until she's been without it for a month or so, because I'm surely more likely to tense up if I know she doesn't have it?

Thanks btw, you've made me feel a lot better
