globe pelham

Someone recommended this to me for my horse, I've had a look on the internet and from pics they look to be a pelham with just a bottom rein, and only seem to be available in straight mouth (I would prefer a double or even single jointed one). They also don't seem to be very popular or widely available. Has anyone got/tried a globe pelham or know a bit more about it (excuse unintentional pun!)?

a pony at work is ridden in one, i find that they are a very fixed bit, no movement and dont like the feel they give personally

Can't help as I have no personal experience of them, but I think in the shires catalogue they have them with a double jointed mouthpiece.

Their main use was for strong ponies that needed extra brakes, but with only one rein (for small riders hands) They were very popular for showing but seem to have lost popularity now. Probably because there is much more to choose from now, but I dont know. We have never used one so cant really comment about effect on any particular horse. Hope this is useful for you!

Hi,

I find it similar to normal pelham but less fiddly.

Its seems a more simplified version of normal pelham.

I use the jointed type (shires), and im tempted to hunt one of mine in it next season for a bit more extra brakes and steering! (its similar to 3 ring gag but has straighter sides so helps steer better with pressure on the jaws)
