Hello All, I'm hoping you could give me some help in finding a *good* riding school near Tewkesbury / North Cheltenham area.

We're soon to be moving house from Gloucester to near Bishops Cleeve, and need to find a new riding school for my eleven year old step daughter. She's been having lessons at Summerhouse since she was 6, and is a confident capable rider, in need of lessons to advance her riding (she particularly likes jumping and cantering) - she'd ideally love some hacking too I suspect!

We need somewhere that will challenge her - not somewhere that will have her plodding along nose to tail ;)

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I can recommend this place. Fabulous hacking and very jumping oriented.

Alternatively look on the BHS website for local BHS approved riding schools, there are quite a few around Cheltenham.

I'm afraid I wouldn't touch this place with a barge pole, if it were the last place on earth I wouldn't ride there!!

Would you not consider continuing at Summerhouse if she is enjoying it there?

Lower Langley Riding Stables in Winchcombe is absolubely fab - I can't recomend it enough :) Moat Farm in gotherington always used to be good but don't know what its like now.

Hi ThePony,

It's going to be a real hike for us to get her to Summerhouse from our new house - also they do not do hacking, so it does seem the ideal opportunity to find somewhere new that's good and gives hacking opportunity.

If we really can't find anywhere suitable which just have to put up with a weekly hike down the M5 though!

Re your comment - have you had bad experience at the place mentioned? Or could you give a little more information about why you wouldn't ride there? PM me if needed!

Many thanks.

Try Tewkesbury Riding School at Twyning, it's excellent. They do hacking, as well as offering the chance to stay all day on a Saturday and ride twice. Once in the morning and once in the afternoon. Flatwork in morning and then jumping in the afternoon. They have a wide selection of ponies too so she'll find one she'll enjoy I'm sure, their indoor arena seems to be a popular selling point this year too. Always more enjoyable when it's dry!

Depends what your after. If you want the best hacking then Jill's or Moat Farm would be your best bets. I've heard many good things about Playmates but they're in an area where the hacking is not as fab.

Can't understand the negative comments about Jill's. She's very highly regarded and if you want to learn to ride well outside of a school then it is the place to go.

Thanks for all replies... I was quite surprised to open this thread and find it was my old one from 2011!
Update.. Kate is now riding at Mill Lane Farm, Greet.. and also at Playmates. She's thoroughly enjoying both.
Thanks for your thoughts folks x
