Hey peeps,

when i was a child I was very flexible, party trick was getting my legs behind my head ?. I was told I had joint hypermobility syndrome. So the doctor did warn me it would eventually take its toll on my body! Well hello 40 it did…. It was almost instantly but as I am not a fan of constantly taking painkillers I lived with it. Started to get very sore and went to doc who said they found rheumatoid arthritis in my blood. But not enough to warrant medication. Fast forward 5 years and went to give blood at xmas.. they told me they couldnt take it! Which was random , never ever had any problems before? They told me my haemoglobin was dangerously low! To go to my go straight away… so I did apparently I had no red blood cells left ??‍♀️ i eventually got fed up going back and forward during covid for this that and discussing stuff over the phone, so I left it. Results came in on Friday from the xray and yes its a torn mcl ligament with cartilage damage and now arthritis has set in so here we go ?

Has anyone tried glucosamine for humans?

As far as I'm aware there's no good evidence that it works, sadly .. it was something that doctors used to recommend on the basis that it might do some good and couldn't do any harm, but they've stopped recommending it now

Yes, I have been taking it for about 30 years. My hands were starting to get really painful and Michael had arthritis so we both started on it. I am now 74 and my hands are only really starting to get painful now. I was on a Joint Plus from Healthspan until they stopped adding MSM to it so now take a formulation from another firm that does include it but not sure it is as good.. The Joint Plus included Chondroitin, MSM and Vit C. I am sure I wouldn't be as mobile as I currently am if I hadn't been taking it. It isn't a painkiller or a quick fix it is for maintenance.

Yes. (Also hypermobile; with dodgy conformation and poor maintenance!) I used a supplement with high glucosamine amongst other things for many years and am reasonably certain it's what kept me going. Only recently stopped because they had shark cartilage in and although originally I believed the manufacturer when they claimed it was by-product and therefore ethically/environmentally OK (ish) I have become less sure. I tried a couple of different makes but they just weren't as good. I'm now of an age where other things are as likely to scupper me as joint pain anyway! I've found that over-hydrating, electrolytes and keeping moving help as much as anything.
