does anyone have/have opinions on these?? my horse occasionally has one glued on if looses a shoe and bit of hoof, what are the advantages/dissadvantages?
thanks
Fine if that is all you can use. My boy had them on front feet last year as he pulled a nailed shoe and half his hoof with it!! They are very expensive tho and as soon as you start to see the glue begin to crack, they willl need replacing or will drop off.
our farriers were really against them, as they reckon the foot gives before the glue does...and if they come off half the foot comes off with the shoe..
With my boy the glue definately gave out before the foot - we would usually lose one out hacking, 4 miles from home! Started carrying BOA boot just in case!!!
My farrier doesn't recommend them, he says they can do more damage than good and aslo work out very expensive, especially if they fall off alot, he recommeds boots, like old mac boots, but they are from America and are made to fit the horses foot shape therefore making a better fit, but I can't for the life of me remember what they are called.
My horse is having to wear glue on shoes at the moment due to tearing her dorsal laminae in Dec and not tolerating nails on again yet.
My farrier does alot of remidial work and therefore uses glue on shoes often. The first pair my horse had was the imprint heart bar, these were great and stayed on for 8 weeks. We have now ust had some ordinary glue on shoes put on, she had them on on a saturday and took one off on sat night and one on mon night, the farrier came back to put the on again and this time he used different glue, a week on and they are still on, 4 more weeks to go so fingers crossed.
When she took them off the shoe came away from the glue rather than the glue coming away from the foot.
I also have a pair of old macs that come in very handy for lost shoes glue or nail on originally purchased for a broodmare who used to go foot sore on hard ground but due to a change in diet no longer needs them, ever!
