Hiya, does anyone have any experience of Gluten Allergies in German Shepherds? My GSD has always had a sensitive stomach so i've always been carefull what i feed him. When i was at the saddlers today i enquired about a different complete food for him and my crossbreed and was told that allergies to gluten were common in GSD's. Anyone else heard of this? My vet has never mentioned this before despite the fact that my GSD has just about every other problem that can possibly happen to a dog of this breed.

A lot of dogs have gluten allergies!!
As do a lot of people!
I am very surprised your Vet hasn't mentioned this before as it is a fairly common condition in the breed?

Gluten intolerance can cause a whole host of symptoms.. I think I would be looking for a new Vet!!!

Wheat and for that matter any carbohydrate rich food, is not a natural feed for a carnivore and modern wheat germ is terrible stuff. It has been intensively developed into more or less pure starch, it's no wonder Humans have problems, compare a modern wheat germ to wild wheat or spelt and you will see that there is now little or no husk, its been dramatically altered.

Not only that but the quality and amount of wheat stuffed into many complete dog foods is very dubious with no restrictions as to amount or pesticde content etc.

I avoid it like the plague for both me and the dogs!
