Hi all,

Just looking for advice.

Moved to an organic yard and need to find some GMO free feed.

Looking for a list of brands that are GMO free. Preferably not special order otherwise I will continue to use top spec.

Want chaff and a good balancer (light or low cal balancer in summer and cool balancer for winter that improves top line without the fizz)

She’s currently on Dengie Alpha A (which I believe is GMO free) and Top Soec light balancer in summer - cool balancer in winter.

Thank :)

I am pretty sure Thunderbrooks is GMO free. Allen and Page do organic poultry feed, so they may be worth a look.

Yes Thunderbrooks do but that’s special order at my local feed store and they don’t have a big range of stuff either. So would rather stick to Topspec if I have to order anyway. Thank you :)

I’m on an organic yard and have to feed GMO free. It’s a bit of a PITA to be honest.
The main ingredient you need to look for is any form of soya, this is generally what will make something GMO.

Topspec, Saracen, pure feed, keyflow products that have soya are not GMO free. The other major brands I haven’t asked as I wouldn’t feed them anyway.

Chaffs aren’t so much of an issue, plenty are now sprayed in rapeseed or linseed rather than soya oil.

The feeds I use at various stages of the year are GWF fibregest, omega rice, baileys oats, smart zero mix, dengie meadow grass.

The smart balancer from castle horse feeds might be worth looking at, free delivery. The company has been hand delivering me the smart zero - which I really like

Thank you that was really useful! Sorry I didn’t make it clear in my original post. Topspec is not GMO free however they do a GMO free range but you have to order it in specially from my local feed store...and I can’t be bothered with the hassle if there are other, easy to get a hold of, brands out there that are GMO free across their entire range.

Will definitely check out castle horse feeds!

Allen & Page appear to have a non GMO policy. Their website states

As a matter of policy, Allen & Page has taken a positive attitude towards producing feed which only includes non-genetically modified ingredients (Non-GM).

Non-GM Ingredients

To be able to offer you the very highest standard of feed, we do all that we can to ensure that all the ingredients used, are grown from seed which is not genetically modified (Non-GM). Although no crops can be guaranteed to be completely GM free, we go one step further than most and only ever use Hard IP ingredients – this means that the crops are grown from Non-GM seeds in a protected area away from any GM crops, which helps to avoid possible contamination. The alternative and more commonly used Soft IP (FEMAS), could contain almost one tonne of GM contamination in every 100 tonnes of ingredient! (IP means Identity Preserved – i.e. not contaminated). Our quality assured mill is ISO9001 Approved, UFAS Feed Assured, Soil Association Licensed and Vegetarian Society Approved.

You can see the full statement here https://www.allenandpage.com/our-values/non-gm-policy/

If they really are non GM across the entire range (or at least most of it) that would be a definite option for you?
