It was pointed out to me today (not intentionally) that I might just take Monty for granted considering he is only 6 which I do have a habit of forgetting
We decided to get them out for a hack whilst the rain had eased off. So off we went in the wind which we would never of done with D (he never needed an excuse to be naughty so in the wind would be suicide

)
A big van whooshed past as we turned down a bridleway and he didn't flinch

Three horses in a field alonside the track decided to have a run around but he carried on

Next was a long grassy track, he was behind my friends mare whilst we trotted and although he tried to insist we canter he accepted that we were trotting and that's what he did

Although he did put in a few power trots along the way

Donnegan would of just exploded in that situation
Sorry pointless post really but thought I would admit to taking his good, willing, nature for granted

Yep, when i go places in the trailer and when she is an arse when i ride her whatever- i totally forget how fantastic at loading, travelling and standing about she is when my friends will be dragging their horses into the trailer or having to lunge it for 2hours before their class whereas I can just sit there eating chocolate lol

I’m the same but Bodey isn’t even 5 yet, I have to keep reminding myself of that but it’s very hard as he is just so good that I just want to keep doing more and more.

I can school my 5 yo ISH in my unfenced arena in the dark, wind & rain by the light of one floodlight ie lots of spooky shadows, & he just gets on with it. I wouldn't even lunge my previous horse in the same circumstances whereas Adrian is fine. I really do appreciate being able to school in adverse conditions (bonfire night fireworks display going on, neighbour angle grinding something etc) without having a near death experience.

Yes I am guilty too, the old Appy would not hack out alone and was petrified of any vehicle larger than a land rover, would spin on one toe and leg it, unless pinned in by her large and sensible friend. The current one hacks alone, is totally chilled with traffic and I STILL sometimes complain that she can be a bit spooky!

I'm with you Sharon, my boy is very sweet natured and there are times when I take him for granted, especially loading/travelling - he's such a sweetheart. However, sometimes when we're hacking, he often 'reminds' me that I can't take him for granted!!! I always have to be awake on that one... little monkey!
