It is so nice to get paid for something that is really my biggest hobby.Working as a groom on a thoroughbred stud this time of year for me is probably the most rewarding. We are now well underway with the foaling season and it makes me so happy watching the little bundles of trouble skipping around the paddocks with their mums. Why are they such time wasters you really could stand there all day watching them play they are beautiful! Anyone else had any yet or do you have a mare due to foal this year?

You are lucky - I love to watch new foals turned out with their mothers.
I have no foals but I too love this time of year - the days are getting longer, all the buds are coming out and we have the whole year to look forward too. I like this weather too - not too hot to hack and no flies!

As well as riding, I am quite a keen archer.

One of the ranges I occasionally visit, near Taunton, has a large field next to the practice target, which last year had a foal and mum in it. I spent several hours on several Sunday mornings getting absolutely no work done on my bow, as I was just watching the two of them together. The foal was very inquisitive about me although shy, but mum was happy to share my lunch time apple.

i was lucky enough to get a weekend break to coomb house in devon last year, was in may n as we drove up the drive saw the most incredible site, the field directly in front of the guest house was full of mares and foals, n our room looked out onto them, (asked first) went in and walked round the field ,they all followed us must have been 10 of these foals following us!!! foals r so brave and cheeky will never forget it!
