My mare is now being referred to the hospital for a scan of her back for problems as well as left hind in which she has come out lame lately. I hope she comes back with good prognosis. Vet was also talking about blocking out nerves in the different parts of the leg to come to the root of where the leg problem lies so this will take a while.

Question is: when they do such scans and testing, does the owner usually stay around or do you leave the horse to the vets and nurses and return at a later point to pick up and discuss?

I am asking this as I have to work put logistics in terms of person who will hopefully transport us to the hospital as well as my two small children who I look after myself and have no family nearby to dump them on.

Thanks,

Usually drop off the horse early in the morning and pick up that evening. Depending on what she blocks to, she may be required to stay overnight.

When my horse went to RVC for a bone scan we stayed for the initiial assessment but as he was injected with some sort of radioactive element he had to stay there for a couple of days in isolation until he was no longer radioactive, then we went back for more work up and then took him home.

I would ring the hospital and ask them what to expect - I am sure it is pretty much standard as to what they will do so they should be able to give you a good time scale of things.
