Just wondered if dark horses go grey as they age. The reason i ask, is i'm not 100% sure off my horses age. He has small grey hairs around his eyes and on his face. And in his mane.

Yes they do, my mare is greying around the eyes, has been for a couple of years now, she is 20 this year and I have even noticed the past few months grey hairs in her main coat.
Well I have grey hairs and I am not yet 29! So we are very alike in having some grey but not lots, Seren does have a few more than me, but not many!

ETS: She has a few greys in her mane, she is the red bay in my siggy

I agree, my first pony Mrs Smith was a bay and she went very grey in the face in her old age. She was sold to us as 17 but looking back was probably at least 27!!

The grey hair is the best of it!

Soon there will be the age related hair loss (mine started at the top of his bum cheeks near his tail) - not totally bald but a bit thinner than it used to be.

Then there will be slack neck syndrome - right where the neck joins the chest it goes all loose .... dread to think what else will happen!

Mine's 31 but she's not showing much grey, but has vitiligo so has white skin around her eyes, muzzle and bum, plus her hooves are now white, and they used to be black!

My horse had grey highlights on her face and body when I got her at age 5. She's now 18 and no greyer than when i first got her. My other horse, a piebald cob who's now 20 has lots of white flecks coming through on his black bits. can't complain as I'm definitely greyer than when I got my first horse !

Older solid coloured horses sometimes go grey on their forehead (underneath forlock) & on their cheeks infront of the cheek bones. I think it varies a great deal like us humans!

One thing to look for is hollowing above the eyes which happens in older horses.

The mare I compete is written as bay on her passport, given to her as a yearling, and was apparently quite dark, however she is now fleabitten grey! so a bit of a change there.

This is my girl at 8YO

She was so dappled when i first got her, her legs were almost black, now she has (very hard to keep clean) white legs!

Now i'm worried. I was told he was 10 when i had him. He is 14 now, but maybe he is older.

Don't panic. Henry has had grey hairs from being about 9. I know his age for definite (he's now 18). They started in his mane, then the star on his forehead starting to become a strange vortexed smudge (only way I can describe it!) and he has developed more and more grey hairs on random parts of his body.
