Having wanted to go hunting since i was about 10 !! I have now finally got my own ned 6 months ago, and am going to go at the grand age of 20!
I am going on a beginnners mock hunt on the 1st october.

I am presuming tweed jacket, beige jods, black long boots (i dont have brown) dark velvet hat cover, stock? tie?
I am planning on getting myself a new tweed as old one doesnt fit - the violet check caldene will this be ok?

And my pony - smart?
are her navy clarendon boots ok? she has brown tack which is really smart as its new. I will plait her mane as it will get in my way otherwise - do i have to plait her tail aswell? she is WHP type pony

I have been fitness training her now for 6 weeks with lots of road work involved so she is ready and am going to clip her this weekend as she is beginning to get hairy !!

Correct dress
tweed jacket before opening meet,
after opening meet plain colour black or navy
beige jods
black long boots
dark velvet hat cover - to match hunting coat black or navy
before sub due:
tie
after sub and before opening meet: colour stock
after opening meet white stock , a no no white stock with tweed jacket, if you don't have plain hunting coat, wear coloured stock with tweed ('Rat Catcher')
Plain gloves
Spurs
Stick or hunting stick (very good for helping with gates etc....)
chololate for snack on the way home
mobile phone - just in case
bale twine-small amount
pen knife
and A MUST HIP FLASK

Pony
only one rule plain tack and if you need gaget PUT it on!!!! you need to have control etc.... boot it's your choice but all day hunting with mud inside boots can be more harm than good, but if pony brushes legs defo stick on
ooooo
lots of polishing required!!!!!

As for plaiting
YES - only plait for opening meet and after, not for hound exercise

oooo and i forget SMILE!!!!!!!!! and enjoy or KICK ON!!!!!

Good information KO! I am very jealous - was hoping to go hunting for the first time this season but pony is injured but hopefully may be able to try it later in the season. I had already got two jackets and boots off ebay and was raring to go :(
I hope you have a fantastic time and keep us posted :)

A good bit of advice if you gg is lively, is don't get involed with the field, at gateway approach from side and slot in. Keep to the side as if pony will make up ground. Look out in gateway for people with red/green ribbon and give room, but if someone also places their hand behind their back in a gate, its a warning that horse could kick or over react in some way but not as bad as to wear red ribbon. At meet check out other gg work out which are the nutter and then don't go near them!!!
Alway said elo to masters and let huntman/hounds and master through at all times.
If hounds need to come bye, turn pony and faces hounds and let through.
Can't think of any more at mo, apart from have a sound hunting season!!
