Im planning on going to a jumping clinic next week. The lesson will be around 5pm I think, so I will be coming home in the dark. Just worried because Ive never been out in the dark before

Is there any thing I should keep in mind? (I wont be the one towing the box)

Its probably not much different to the horse then going out in the day really

You can buy round battery powered LED lights in home base and places like that some have hooks and hang others stick on it would be worth getting a couple .
Check at home that your horse will load into the trailer when it's dark some don't like it until they get the idea.
Take a couple of torches and keep track of your stuff when getting ready to leave its very easy to lose things in a car park even if it's got lighting when it dark.

Just take a torch then at least you can see that the trailer is all shut up properly. Like others have said you can use it as an interior light too.

I will ask my dad to come out and try him a couple of times in the dark. Its not till next Thursday.

Have had a look on the website and cant find any battery lights but I will try to get some.

Do they tend to be ok travelling in the dark when they cant see??

As the others have said really.
Travel there in bridle maybe, and boots under travell boots to save you doing it there. Make sue you know where everything is so you dont have to go digging in the boot for numnah etc. Head torch is a life saver.
Make feeds up for when you get back if you don't have lights at yard.
Mine travels just as well in the dark as she does in the day. Think their vision is better than ours in the dark.
Have a great time!

I would try and organise some sort of internal light for loading - that's the only time I've seen problems and it was someone trying to load into a trailer when their internal light had gone and the horse didn't want to go into a dark hole!

I thought it was a legal requirement to have a light in a livestock trailer? Or is that only for cattle? Can't seem to find anything at the moment to confirm that, if there is anyone out there who can tell me if that is the case would be grateful.

OH put in a slightly larger light than the one that came in the IW....found out tonight my new horse was happy to load and travel in the dark so I'm thinking all will be well, and good idea for those little LED lights to attach if you can't get a light fixed in time....

mines an old rice trailer. It didn't come with a light and it wasn't mentioned when it went for a service and big repair job. So I don't know about legality :S

Ive emailed the lady and asked for a 3.30 lesson, hoping to get him home or nearly home by the time it gets dark but I don't yet know if I'll get that time!

Will try to get a light in time :) He loaded like a pro today but in daylight :)
