Just wondering if anyone can help me try to work out the going rate to rent grazing?

It's a nice field, on quite a steepish hill, well fenced with mains water and a small shelter. The owner reckons it's 3 acres, I'm not sure it's quite that big. I want it just for one pony, as the horse that lives next door never leaves the field so no companion needed :)

I've done a but of searching and reckon somewhere between £100/acre/year and £10/week for the field is about right?

Also, is there anywhere online where I can find out how big the field actually is?

Many thanks :)

As you could keep 2/3 horses in there and you have water and a shelter and decent fencing, I would say £75-£100 a month as grass livery with all that on a yard is £50 + per horse!

I think that if you are having sole use of the field and shelter £10/wk sounds too little.

I would let people put horses on my field for £10/wk but I'd want more if they have sole use of the field.

To be fair, we have rented it for less in the past to sheep farmers, but sheep improve the land whereas horses don't...

Our local authority used to charge £100 per acres per year, but recently the prices seem to have gone up for new tenants. One small 1 acre paddock with no facilities as just been rented for £600 per year !, it really does depend how much you want this field to how much you are willing to pay. I have council fields and a private rent field, my council land is still at £100 per acre per year as I am an old tenant however it is slowly going over the £100 per acre now, my private rent field is 4 acres with water and I pay £50 per month.

I think £10 per week per horse is a fairly standard rate, sounds like £25 per week is a more realistic amount as you could keep 3 horses there? However the fact the hill is steep is a factor which makes the land cheaper.

Last year i payed £10 per week per horse for a 5 acre field - no shelter but plenty of trees to stand under (not that they ever did)
Now i pay £20 a week for field & stable with water per horse :)
