FoxhillBelle on here was bought from a dealer. Most straightforward horse we went to see by a mile, I can only hope I find a horse as genuine as her when I come to look for my next horse. Definitely wouldn't be concerned about buying from a dealer.

Got more comeback on a dealer than a private person, they have a reputation to uphold, although there are one or two who don't give a damm.

Make sure that you take someone else with you as a second pair of eyes and a witness as to what has been said.

Remember a dealer will probably not know the history of a horse as they normally buy horses from auctions or from another dealer.

Tell the dealer exactly what you want the horse for so that there are no misunderstandings.

You do not have any comebacks if the dealer is selling the horse on behalf of someone else.

I bought from one dealer who summed up all the bad points of buying off a dealer. I vowed never to go through a dealer again but having travelled to look at horses via private sales which were unsuitable for various reasons I was feeling rather disillusioned by the whole process

I have just bought through an Irish agent and I can honestly say it was the most pleasant experience. I saw lots of horses (any of which I would have been delighted to have in my stable) All the horses he showed me where within my budget. I have had the horse now for just over two weeks and he is the sweetest horse you could wish for. Totally honest and has not put a foot wrong.

(If you would like me to pass on his details PM me)

I would suggest that you ask on this forum if anyone has heard of the dealer you are buying from ..

I wouldnt hesitate to go to a dealer, but as with anything, don't take their word for anything, make sure you see what you want to see for yourself!

Ask on here if anyone has had dealings with the dealer you are going to. There are a few down here that you wouldn't touch with a barge pole, but non-horsey locals don't know that. (even to selling a drugged 12.2 as a quiet childs pony; the story was that it was ok when sold, but you can have a few quid back)

Hi, would be very grateful for the details of the agent you used. Would you mind telling me what it was you were looking for and what your budget was? Many thanks. (PM if you prefer).
