Going on a camp soon and we have to take our own hay. Obviously they will be in for about 20 hours a day, so will probably need to take quite a lot with us! My pony is used to being turned out at least 10 hours a day, but is quite laid back and been to camps before, so this will not be a problem, however I was wondering whether it would be worth giving him some hay replacer to keep it a bit more interesting for him? He has Hifi in his normal feeds, so was thinking I could give him a trug of that, maybe with some readigrass or similar? Do you think it's worth it or am I just over complicating things?

He will probably be fine with just hay, and there is a lot going on at camp and lots to see all the time, he won't get bored or anything.

You could give him a bucket of hifi at night in a separate bucket from his feed - just something different to occupy him, but in my opinion not necessarily need from a nutritional point of view if his hard feed is correct.

What hard feed will you be giving him?

His hard feed is 1 1/2 mugs Spillers lite balancer, 1 1/2 scoops hifi, 3/4 scoop Spillers slow release cubes, salt and probably NAF enerG, split between 2 feeds. I'm sure the hay will be fine, I just have a habit of over complicating things, I was just thinking it might help to keep it a bit more varied and interesting for him. :)

You might not need the NAF enerG if he is not used to being in so much, he might have plenty of spare energy anyway!

Have a good time at camp - this year is the first year my duaghter is not going as she feels too old (16) - shame, her horse loves it.
