I posted ealrier to say I have had enough of horses (sort of!)
So step one is to loan out one of my horses ... I have typed this out what do you think? I want to be really honest and get a really nice experienced person (it's not me jumping him in the pic!)

16.3hh, 10year old, gelding , Irish Sports Horse. For loan in the East Sussex/Kent area.

Good points:
Lovely natured, Big, forward going ‘look at me’ type of horse.
Loves being looked after, good to groom, and good to tie up & loves a bath,
Good (great) to load, but once on the trailer/lorry he gets anxious if he is on his own, is much better with a pony or friend, but he is ok to travel on his own, he just doesn’t like it much!
Good to clip (except for his ears, he doesn’t like that)
Good with farrier,
Easy to do, Eats everything, lives out in the summer,
Easy to lead, never gets bargy
Lovely to ride, never bucks or rears.
HUGE jump, lovely flatwork (although can get anxious)
Full passport/id, vacs up to date for a full year.

Bad Points:
Gets a bit anxious/stressy sometimes, but is ok with reassurance, he doesn’t do anything silly, just worries a bit & tenses up.
He has started snatching at the bit when he is worried (mainly jumping) had teeth and back checked and worked on, full MOT – all clear.
Pigeon toed - but doesn't effect they way he goes.
Small sarcoid on his side, it doesn’t rub anywhere, hasn’t got any worse – no change in years.

This horse would make a great show jumper or maybe even a hunter for a competent jumping person with soft hands and a reassuring way.

He is a bit too much for me to jump but I know he has it in him, I have seen him show jump up to 1m.20 easily.

I would like to see him happy and in work and to see what he is capable of......

It's good, my only question is whats he like in traffic / hacking?

Oh! I forgot about that, he is fine out hacking, loves it, I have never taken him on my own but the previous owner did and when I tried him, I took him out on his own for 10 mins, he was fine ... I will add it onto the list ... thanks.

I had a realy bad experiance loaning out a young cob last year. To cut a long story short i had to loan him out due to cercomstances beond my controll. I loaned him to a girl i thought was lovely and she said she was experianced. She had him a couple of mounths and she phoned me and said i had to have him back. she said he was attacking people and the other horses and the yard owner was gonna have him shot if he wasn't gone in 3 days. I was so upset at what she was telling me as he was a lovely pony and would never hurt anybody. Sadly i was in no position to have him back so i had to give him away. Luckly he is now in a good home and they tell me they will keep him forever. They also say he doesn't attack people so thats a releife. But i lost my lovely little cob and hate to think what happened to him in the few months he was on loan. I would deff think twice before loaning out again and would only loan localy so i could keep an eye on the horse.

I am worried about that, not sure if I should sell him but I would like to still be a part of his life, he is lovely.

I would only want him to be loaned out around here and I could drop in and see him anytime.

Thanks for the reply, it is something to think about.

I do wish i had loaned my cob localy and had been able to check up on him. Would you be in a position to have him back if it didn't work out?

I think thats a great advert, he sounds and looks wonderful! I would check out the yard where he was going and possibly if it was me only loan him out in current yard. But i am a worrier!! best of luck

You may think me mad, but that's the kind of horse I might consider loaning to a training centre - a big 'un that does up to Stage IV mind you - if they were interested. Not for ever, but for a year or so, might be a really nice gig for him.

Hi, Thanks for the reply, do you mean a college ie: Hartbury or Plumpton? I hadn't thought of that.

Yes, that's what I meant! Just thought it might be fun for him for a year or so?

I can recommend Brinsbury, Pulborough. My horse spent a year there about 6yrs ago. They were great - she did lessons in the week and hacked at the weekend. I could also go down and hack her out at the weekends if I wanted. They got turned out which a lot of the colleges don't do & that was important to me.
It takes the worry out of loaning to someone you don't know and you can go & see them whenever you want.

Do you think he is the sort of horse they would take? he is a bit quirky and has pigeon toes & a sarcoid! I suppose I could ask them, Pulborough is about an hour away from me so it is not to far if I need to pop in and see him.

I'm sure he's the type they'd be desperate for. Don't think they'll worry about the pigeon toes/sarcoid. I think you can specify you don't want any novice riders etc on him. The only thing is if he will be happy with lots of different riders. My mare was fine but she's pretty laid back and matched her effort output to the riders ability!!
I'd give them a call for a chat, it was a while ago I was there but she was very well looked after.

I was just thinking it might even help with his stressyness. Different riders, strong routine, lots to see and do, lots of brainwork - I don't know your horse but it sprang to mind as something that might suit the horse you describe, by way of kind of work experience LOL

Thanks very much for all of your ideas, I am going to phone them, I think it wil be really good for him and keep him busy!

I also will be able to keep an eye on him and maybe even ride him sometimes?

Just thinking his pigeon toes and sarcoid are an absolute gift for confirmation and veterinary lectures, they'll probably have him on the strength of those alone

Your right! he will be a talking point, they will have never have seen toes like his - bless him!

I will let you know how I get on - thanks.
