Going to really miss riding my 3yr old TB this winter, we have had a nice steady summer, she is now being turned away for the winter to grow and mature before the work starts in the spring.

Gutted as i love riding her, i know it has to be done but will be hard. :(

Going to teach her to play fetch i think, she likes to run round with hthings in her mouth, caught her taking her over reach boot off in the field then proceed to gallop around with it in her mouth flapping it around. :D:rolleyes:

Good for you. Doing the right thing, and you won't miss riding when there is ice everywhere! I'm roughing mine off as I'm injured!

Our youngster likes undoing eveyone's headcollars and flinging them off - especially if there are deep snowdrifts to chuck them in!

My mare is out of work this winter due to injury. I am going to miss riding her so much, infact I already am. I love our winter adventures together, and we had just started cubbing too!
I do have a loan horse coming next week that I will have to play with, but I will miss sitting on my little Starla horse :(

Good on you for doing the right thing though :) I'll have this next winter as mines a 2 year old at the minute. So planning on backing next summer then turning away, see how it goes though.

I'm the same, 4 horses but stealing rides from the hunt yard up the road!
One mare with foal at foot, My three year old also backed and turned away for winter and my old boy having the winter off as his companion.
Upside means no mucking out, but on a lovely sunny day like today i'm just itching to go out for a nice long hack

Lack of mucking out it a plus......get to ride the race horses at the weekends, but she has been so great this summer, we did a small xc schooling day as her last thing before being let down in prep for turning away. she was amazing, so brave with the ditch and small steps.

I know it's the right thing to do, she'll be turned away next winter too as a 4 yr old, not for so long mind you, but i believe in youngsters having the time to reflect and chill.

Well i was the same, my ridden mare turned away for winter other 2 are 2/3 yr olds so i have a new mare on full loan to ride and rode her for first time today cant bare the thought of not riding.

Me too.

No riding 'till February at the earliest :(

D1 will ride Dizz three times a week, I'll lunger her a couple of times; D1 will also ride Grey Mare and have some fun :D

Hoped I'd be riding by December, but not to be. Ho hum.

I've ridden mine for only 3 weeks since May. First he had laminitis then he was back in work. Now he has a bacterial infection and can't be ridden until he is better. Hope I have better luck next year.

BHW.....not a good year for you then.

I have other horses to ride but it's the baby that i'll miss riding...mind you when it's horrible out, i won't feel like i have to get the horse exercised i can just sit in on the sofa with a duvet and stay warm and dry. lol

I am considering giving my mare the winter off as she will be living out and not clipped so I guess its easier not to ride in all the mud, wet and **** etc...
