It's been nearly two weeks since my Big Ears went away to my friend, M, to be trained.

During the first few days, M simply got to know her. I'd given her a pretty extensive list of her habits, quirks, likes and dislikes, then realised that M is a professional and would figure it all out for herself (she was very gracious in accepting the info from an overbearing owner all the same :o). I had a text on day two saying 'oh my god, her canter is amazing', which was a real boost for someone like me (I don't rate myself much as a rider), as I'd done a bit of work developing her trot and canter. Also, I've received a lot of negative comments about Big Ears and it was really nice for someone to say something nice about her for a change :)

Big Ears was lunged in the pessoa for the first time at the start of this week. M was concerned that she might not like it the first time as I'd lunged her (I use the term very loosely) only twice before, but in true Big Ears style she simply looked grumpy and got on with it! She has been extensively long-reined whilst being broken to the cart and M did lunge her the day before without the pessoa so that may have made a difference. I was also sent some photos last night of her working in the beginnings of an outline, and even though she's only been there for just under a fortnight, she's shining from it. In more true Big Ears style, and as I warned, she's eating them out of house and home and couldn't be happier with the feeding arrangements :p

Racing on Monday (which both M and I were due to go to) has been cancelled - lack of entries due to Appleby two-day meeting and a few of our local trainers heading up there - so I suggested that I drive down and we take Big Ears and M's reschooled pacer Beama out for a hack. She's also offered to give me a short schooling session at the yard so I can put into practice what she's been teaching Big Ears.

I'm excited :D I miss my girl and I can't wait to ride her and see how she's coming along!

Exceptionally pointless, but excited, post!

I genuinely can't wait! I said to my friend that she'll see a different side to me when I ride Big Ears. The last time I rode out with her I was on her horse Beama and I was a bit hesitant to canter because he throws in little bucks now and then and because I didn't know him 100% I was really nervy.

When I sit on Big Ears I feel as safe as houses :) my friend will see me as a much more confident rider!

I am however expecting to see a rather grumpy mare, because I think she was looking forward to a summer of doing nothing!
