I have been allowed to represent the dressage discipline in my schools end of year 'gathering' and I need to find good quality turnout products that will also be good for use in unaffiliated showing this summer.

are gold label grooming products any good?
does the coat shine really shine them up etc?

everything else seems so expensive but this! And I would love to try it but not waste my money!

Honestly, I don't think it's bad stuff. Don't get me wrong, it isn't the best but most certainly not the worst either!

It is good stuff, I used to sell loads of gold label healthcare products, plain packaging is to keep the costs down so don't let the plain labels fool you into thinking it isn't good.LOTS of research has gone into their products and at one time they even had their own chemist who you could ring up to ask advice, very friendly and helpful on the phone when dealing with them.

Brilliant thank you,mom also looking at the champion Tails range as they seem similar, I actually thought the plain packaging made it look more professional than something from NAF which is very fancy and seems for occasional use!

I really rate the wonder gel one of the only products that I can use on my Arab that his not allergic to, and I really like the saddle soap makes your tack feel lovely, have used the show shine its ok my favourite is the Dream Coat by carr day and martin that is just brilliant stuff never found anything to compare to it.

Also wanted to say the Naf products I find are a bit rubbish for the money, tried a few and not been that great in my opinion.

Gold Label wonder gel is very good. Also their mud fever prevention cream is excellent (forgotten the name). Everyone I know uses these 2 products.

I love Gold Label stuff. It's cheap, cheerful and most importantly works! If it's turnout products you are needing specifically on a shoe string raid local supermarkets instead but always do a spot check first to make sure horse isn't allergic...

Coat shine - baby oil mixed with water or cheap furniture polish.

Shampoo - Value brands or baby shampoo do genuinely work as well as horse shampoo or use washing up liquid on tails or white socks but don't wash too often as removes grease.

Hoof oil - for black hooves use liquid boot polish and a spritz of baby oil on top.

Laying plaits - hairspray or a small amount of gel. Be careful though as gel can leave 'scurfy' looking marks. Personally never need to use it, find water does a sufficient job. Hair serum from superdrug/pound shop will work fantastic for setting plaits but dont use if plaiting on consecutive days, it's slippery stuff.

Gloss - Baby oil.

Whitener - Talc powder (although I do use chalk as find it comes up better, it really isn't expensive though)

All first aid items creams etc all come from pound stretcher, never underestimate the power of sudocrem ;)

Tea towels make excellent stable rubbers for removing dust.

Vinegar in hot water will remove all but stubborn stains when too cold to bath, just needs elbow grease.

Baby wipes for last minute touch ups.

Good luck OP, turning your horse out to a high standard just takes practice and doesn't need to be expensive I promise. I will admit I do have some horse specific products that I will not scrimp on... Canter tail spray being one but only because i'm lazy and wont brush the show horses tails out on a daily basis because it breaks the hairs but seriously most products are only as expensive as they are because of the label on them :)
