I took myself off to Golden Cross on wednesday for some BSJA. I was officially off sick with 'man flu' but decided as the weather was good to take Bo over for a run on grass before his second rounds start in 10 days time. I was expecting the turnout to be low, it being a wednesday and the schools having gone back......but i think everyone else must have had the same idea as me

When i arrived they were still on the British Novice (class 1) and i was in class 3 and 4 ! No matter, i lazed around and watched for a while before the course was ready for my class.

Bo felt a bit churlish in the warm-up and it was very hot and humid too. I suspect that i wasn't functioning at 100% either. I had nobody to help me either so was a little dependant on following others in the warm-up. Anyway, enough of the waffle....the first class was a 1m Am Champs class and he jumped a steady clear....albeit with a little too much interference from the jockey

There were 10 clears in all and only 4 prizes to be paid and to be honest not a huge amount of room for cutting corners in the JO. I was drawn 8th to go by which time there were already at least 4 DC's so i decided to try and move him on a little without going mad and everything was going fine until the 5th fence...a turn back on 270 degrees to an oxer...I gave him plenty of room but for the life of me i couldn't decide on a stride and we just sort of ground to a halt in front of it

We came again and jumped it fine along with the rest of the course but no prizes for that

The second class was a 1.05m Open 2-phase. This time i rode him a lot better i felt and we were just unlucky to roll a poll going into the double from a 4 stride related distance. I had pushed him forward a little for the 4 strides and he just flattened slightly to roll the poll. All in all i was much happier with the round and feel a lot more confident going into the second rounds now.

Thanks for reading

Bo is doing the 1.10m second rounds and Trike the 90cms (bless

). We *might* have a crack at one of the 1.20m last chances with Bo depending on how he progrsses once we go indoors again (he prefers indoors !).

They start at GC on the 15th then at various locations after that.
