After the most amazing show last weekend we toddled off to our local venue Golden Cross this weekend. The target was the 1m Am Second Round for both Bo and Trike.
Arrived in plenty of time as I was pretty much on my own...well 9yo son was grooming for me but only limited help at that age
I warmed Bo up before the class started and the son held him while I walked the course. It was tight and reasonably technical...and upto height...but nothing to worry us
Bo went in 5th and jumped great again. He was taking the fences on and loving his job....and was ver unlucky to rub out the front rail of the penultimate fence
He was just being too exuberant and made up a bit too much ground in the distance...bum
Swapped over to Trike and got him warmed up. I had high hopes for him as he's mega careful and the poles do tend to fall quite easily at GC. He warmed up really well...and so in we went...and he regressed into 4yo mode....spooky and backwards
The round was quite frankly awful
He went 3 strides and 2 strides through the treble instead of 2 and 1. He was looking at everything and there was just no rhythm at all
He came a cropper eventually at the same fence that Bo had had...but in his case he got too deep and with no forward momentum sat on the back rail. Finished up on 4 faults but tbh that result flattered us
Decided not to bother jumping the 1.05m with Bo as couldn't be bothered...and so trundled off home.
It was always going to be hard to follow up last weekends results and at the end of the day both horses came away with just the 4 faults...and in Bo's case the manner in which he jumped was particularly pleasing
We'll look for something a bit bigger for Bo next time I think...he / I feel ready to go back up to 1.10m and maybe 1.20m classes with him again now...but will pick the 1.20m carefully lol!
Thanks for reading.
