We went to Golden Cross on Saturday, 2 days before i decided to change her bit to a pelham as i have been having no control and massive battles with her. She has been such a star the difference has been amazing so i thought this would put the bit to the test.

We arrived at Golden Cross and it was gail force winds and p*ssing down with rain, i walked the course and it was up to height, there was 2 doubles and a water tray

She had never seen a water tray before

She warmed up like such a pro that i was so pleased with her i didn't even care how we did in the ring, she worked her little socks off despite the rain and wind.

Anyway when it was our turn we went in the ring and she jumped the best round EVER and went clear

. In the jump off she was going so well but then we came up to number 4 disunited, i debated whether to bring her back to trot and ask for canter again but decided to push her forwards to see if she would get herself out of trouble but we had that one down. I decided then that i would go for it and use it as a practice as we have never got into a jump off. I turned tight into a big oxer and she had the back rail and then the last jump silly mummy caught the wing with her leg and brought the jump down but still so so pleased with her as she jumped like a dream.

In the discovery i think tiredness started to set in (she has only done one other show where she has jumped 2 classes bless her). She still worked her little socks off but the rythym (sp) had gone so we was legs everywhere and had 3 down but she was still really listening and trying so hard so i couldn't of asked for more.

So all in all a very good day for our 2nd affiliated show, she has been such a star the last couple of days so i am a very proud mummy at the mo

Sounds like you had a great day, despite the weather.
She sounds like she is very grown up and well bahaved (for a 4yo anyway).
WIth regard to the pelham, perhaps you will be able to dispense with it in a few months when she realises you can jump just as well going slowly.
Well done
Fiona

Yeah that is the plan, i didn't really wanna put her in a pelham but we was just having massive battles all the time and it was no fun for either of us.

Since going in the pelham she is carrying herself (i literally have hardly any contact), she is really balanced and collected and i can really feel her working from behind so much better.

I am hoping that she will eventually learn that she cant take the mick and i will be able to go back to the snaffle.

To be honest I would rather see a horse in a pelham than in a bubble bit (hate those with a passion), at least you can adjust the curb chain tightness or use an elastic/leather curb chain.
Two of mine go nicely in snaffles, the other is an angel in a mullen mough pelham, but snatches like mad in a snaffle.
I'm sure you will get back to a snaffle soon.

Well done Kelly ! Sounds like she was an angel for you....and I sympathise with you about the wind....I was riding out in it too...it was horrid !

Where to next then
grin.gif

Thats exactly what she was doing, she was snatching the bit, tanking off with me, running into canter etc. She was just a nightmare and we were constantly battling so i though i would rather put her in a pelham for now to teach her she cant take the mick than pulling her in the mouth constantly.

Hopefully we will get there but she is working like such a dream at the mo that i am gettig excoted about riding again rather than dreading a battle.

Hi Rambo

She was a complete angel and i could tell it was really bothering her coz at one point the rain was blowing so hard in her face that she stamped her front foot whilst going along as if to say 'i am not happy mum but i will keep going anyway'. Bless her

We're off to Merrist Wood next week to jump the Star qualifier, i doubt i will qualify but its worth a bash. Then i dont think we will be back out again til Jan coz of Christmas.

What about you??

Hehe.....We're hoping to get to Royal Leisure this weekend
smile.gif
then doubt we'll jump again until the new year due to lots of other commitments

The good news though is that Bo is back in work......well, 20 minutes, building up to 40 minutes walking under saddle this week and next with a little trotting allowed next week too..yay !
