Okay, from the replies so far to my very recent post (below), the general opinion is to steer clear of these two stud dogs (problem is, the woman who recommended them is SOOO nice and helpful and SOOO "doggy"!). Anyway, does anyone know of any Golden Retriever stud dogs (preferably in East Anglia and the surrounding counties) which are working dogs and dark golden? PM me if you can recommend any please! I'll ask when we go gun dog training tomorrow, but Lottie's the only Retriever there - it's about 80% black labs!!!

Thanks for the two links - I appreciate we may have to travel (but not to Germany!

) The dog in East Sussex actually has the same lines as the dogs in Norfolk I originally posted about regarding their lack of hip scores! Hmm...interesting!

Can't agree with you GinaB but I have to admit some of the black labs are AMAZING to watch! Mind you, my dopey Munsterlander surprised everyone last week by doing a couple of successful "blind retrieves" from an island of tall reeds in the middle of a large pond!

Just Googled Drumalig Copper who looks yummy! Like one of Murphy's Minder's links to a stud dog, the one you suggested also has the same lines on the bitch's side as the stud dogs in Norfolk that haven't been hip scored, so they must come from good lines!

Isn't he lovely? That man is well known over here for his dogs. I looked into buying one of his labs, but then we decided to get another pup instead of a trained one.

If the Norfolk dogs come from good lines more fool the breeder for not having them scored. However I know to my cost that good lines don't always produce good hips

Also I think nowadays mroe and more people are asking about parents hip scores when they purchase puppies, using an unscored dog is quite likely to put off prospective purchasers.

Well done to the breeder on the 2nd link I put up who says she won't let her dogs be used on other breeds as she "has no wish to contribute to the fad of breeding mongrels"

About more and more potential puppy-buyers asking about the parents hip-scores, I thought about a story I've read from an Irish Setter breeder. A couple in their mature years comes to view the then 7 weeks old puppies and eventually asks if they had good hip-scores? The breeder tried several times to explain that nobody hip-scores 7 weeks old puppies but that their parents and grand-parents hip-scores was so and so good. But the couple left, mumbling about irresponsible breeders and that they knew that the breed requirements for all Irish Setters was that they had to be hip-scored...
