Good beaches for riding on in North Devon?

I’d like to take my horse to the beach. We have gone to Exmouth in the past but I’d like to try somewhere new. I was thinking about Saunton (parking at Crow Point) or Woolacombe. A friend has told me that Saunton is near an army training ground and that unless you have a (literally) bombproof horse it can be hairy if they are practising. Does anyone know if that’s the case as friend couldn’t remember if this was at Saunton or somewhere else, or can anyone else recommend a good beach for riding?

I’ve not been but apparently there is a6 mile stretch between Braunton and Saunton sands that looks fabulous. Probus Farm take their sales horses there a lot for photos etc. I think it’s quieter than Exmouth.

Thanks, yes Exmouth is very busy even the estuary! He’s well behaved but it would be nice to go somewhere a little less crowded! But not if we have to deal with artillery!!!
