I was considering breeding this year (but not)! so next year id like to put my mare in foal to this;;

http://www.solaris-sport-horses.co.uk/homozygous_tobiano_warmblood_stallion.shtml

I have seen a foal locally who has this sire and frankly stunning foal.

My mares 15.2, chunky and the best temperament you could find on the ground. Ridden shes very laid back and chilled out - has her flighty moments, and on occasion reminds me she has an opinion, which is soon stomped on lol :)

Im NOT asking *if i should* im asking about sire.......

my girl;

btw foals for keeps NOT for sale :)

Not a bad choice in my opinion.

I like her stamp, for a nice allround riding horse with proper bone and a leg in each corner. You are probably aware that her weak points appear (from those pics) to be a poor neck to shoulder attachment an slightly heavy head. I like the slope of her loins and that very loose trot.

I haven't met Solaris Buenno in the flesh, but he looks like he would refine her all round and hopefully help with the neck.

thank you very much :)

It would be my first foal and theres no doubt im sending her to stud to be foaled! I would never forgive myself her foaling at home if something went wrong...!

I also like Adagio II but i want to breed some colour - as its a "keeps" foal i want to breed exactly what i want from my mare...as i cant physically buy what i want :)

I am open to other suggestions and as much as colour should be "last priority" theres that many stallions out there im sure i can find something to cover every aspect :)

ets - yes poor neck - she was tucking herself up a little too as she was being a slut to the colt next door!! :o

thank you very much :)

Good luck as if you could breed exactly what was wanted we would be laughing! LOL. Why cant you buy what you want? Also anyone embarking on breeding should be breeding for a market as your circumstances can easily change. It also happens that you dont actually get on with what you have bred. When people say I am breeding for myself, to me it sounds like it does not matter about the quality (which I am sure is not the case). If you want colour then obviously the stallion would need to be homogeneous. You need to look at the stallions offspring from mares like yours to get a better idea of what you might get. Are you going to meet the stallion?

magic - as near to what i want.... ;-)

try find me a buenno foal - obvs colt or filly.... for sale under 5k?

thanks CC :)

Well 1) You wont find a foal this time of year as technically they are yearlings. 2) I would die of shock if you could not get a foal later in the year from the type of mare you are using for for under 5k!

Noodle - I don't like him at all.

There's a thread further down about Langaller Farm. They have some nice stallions standing - and one in particular, No Submission, has sired some beautiful foals.

I think you need to put a little 'refinement' back in to her. She is absolutely cracking btw.

Their website needs updating, and his photo isn't great. But if you're in that neck of the woods, well worth a visit.

Or perhaps one of SallyF's boys?

thank you amymay :)

Nice to hear some feedback about my girl too - i happen to think shes wonderful - could do with a little more "oomph" admitidly...but shes got a cracking temprament and scope (she can effing jump...)! and with the right rider would go far jumping :)

were about 40 mins from country farm stud (were in cheshire)

but - i want to breed colour!....I know its "botton of the list" but theres that many stallions out there im sure i can find a good match temperament/conformation and last colour :)

:)

I agree with Magic. Absolutely dont *count* on getting exactly what you want, or even close to it. You get what you get Im afraid :)

I have one from last year that tbh if she wasnt DNA tested Id think she'd been swapped at birth. Absolutely NOTHING like you might have expected from the parents, nothing. Shes a sweet thing and I love her, but I wouldnt have bought her. As it is Ive got her and thats that, the way the cookie crumbles, but she certainly isnt what I wanted.

Some nice horses on that country farm link.

haha oh i know i could get a throwback and cry myself to sleep for a few days.... could be worse if i lost my mare (worse case i know..)

Try googling Amour G, a friend's mare has just produced a lovely foal by him.

Have heard of Amour G, and a lot of good things about him :)

thank you amymay :)

I think there will be far nicer coloured stallions out there.......

Such as Country Top Dollar - lush!

I do love her though, now I feel disloyal and bad for saying all that about her, how mad is that :o

Unless of course, what you want is your beloved mare's offspring, whatever it looks like... and that you absolutely can't buy! :D

Amour G is very very nice, although not homozygous - but still 50% chance of colour.

John Whittaker has a great coloured called Zilando, also not homozygous, but class.

Semper Spirit, of course,
http://www.pintosporthorse.com/sempers-spirit.html

Flax Lion stud have Sambertino & Samaii (don't know if they are homozygous)
http://www.flaxlion.com/index.php?page=sambertino

Shovern stud have Airborn, who IS homozygous, and really quite promising.
http://www.shovernstud.co.uk/airborn_2010.html

Plenty more, but can't think of the top of my head :D

no, cant exactly count on that either, counting chickens and all that. Off course if it does all go well with no tragedies, and you end up with a live foal, well yes you can buy it, unless your stud fee was zero youve still paid for it :D

in my eyes any foal would be beautiful lol!

Not bothered if it has the ugliest markings going to be honest - foal wont be for sale :)

As long as my mares ok - then i will be happy - live foal - even better... :)

A good static conformation shot would probably help give people a better idea of stallions that might suit her.
Also, what breed is she? Who is her sire/damsire?
If I were you I'd get her graded with the appropriate studbook and ask their advice on what needs improving most about her as they will see her in the flesh and will be in a better position to give advice.
Good luck.

thanks but she isnt pedigree/graded

shes a cross (warmblood x cob)

Hence why in my original post i said no opinions on "if i should" as i knew i would get slated (even thos foal is for keeps!)

Thank you for your post :)

noodle, she is gorgeous!

i love buenno, and all his offspring, ive never met him in the flesh, but if i was closer i would definately use him!

i have a cob x sec d mare that i wanted to breed from (she isnt registered and has no breeding) i bred a foal out of a dutch warmblood stallion. he was coloured but not guarenteed a coloured foal. i said to my mum, id love a coloured filly (what i always wanted out of her) but at the same time i just wanted a foal out of my mare for myself, a bit taller, a bit finer, with a good tempermant. luckily for me, pregnancy and foaling was textbook (took 2 years to get her in foal though!) and i got my lovely marked coloured filly and at rising two shes same height as mum (14hands - ish) so will be a nice height.

if you like buenno, and he compliments your mare, use him, i dont think you will regret it. as youve said, even if the foal comes out with bizarre markings, its going to be out of your beloved mare so your going to love it regardless! also, if you have to sell at any point, being by him it will be sellable (said yourself cant find anything cheap enough to buy from him anyway!)

thats my 2 pennys worth! :D good luck and make sure u post piccies if you do use him!

I really like Daydream, but he is 14.2hh and maybe you are wanting to breed something larger.

I bred from my mare (very similar to yours!!) and used a 14.2hh GRP pony as I didn't want my foal to be over 16hh at maturity. At 10 months she is just under 14hh. So she may well go over 16hh anyway. But She is absolutely perfect and I would'nt change her for the world.

ahh thank you so much :)

is the filly in your sig.... ?? if so what a little cracker :) :D

I loved Buenno ever since i saw him....then someone locally has a foal by him so that really made up my mind!!!

I plan to kick some ass in the dressage world this season and do some light showing (i hate it)....and give her some form of record... (although she dosent need one as its just personal thing i need to do)!...

thannk you again :) :)

Im after something approx 15.3 - however as we dont know my mares parents - god knows what height....:D:D

However height im not too worried about - i am quite tall 5'7) however i dont look too bad from anything from 13.2 - 16.3 :)
