Realised I hadn’t posted anything about Rew for ages! He’s about 11 months old now, we had a go at agility last year which was huge fun and whilst waiting for that to start again we’re doing the KC Good citizen thing, can’t say either of us are loving it but hey it gets us out! From Rew’s pov there are dogs in the class who want to play with him which is great but not allowed and another big strong dogs who barks at him and would like to have a go at any male dog, not so good (owner is on it but it unnerves me too). So Rew blotted his copy book of never ever having pooed in the house even as a pup by dropped g a huge sloppy shit in the middle of the dog training barn ??‍♀️?8883FBE5-32E8-4B21-8C2B-121D5061E527.jpeg

I always put my youngsters through Good Citizen but do find it a bit boring. As you say though it's all good experience for them. The questions are the worst part in my opinion, the answers are so obvious that I sometimes struggle to think of them eg when would you take your dog to a vet. My "pup" is 15 months but had leg surgery last year so missed a chunk, he had his first very basic agility lesson this week, he loved it and was good but very vocal !

I have done KC Good Citizen with all my collies, 5 now, and found it very beneficial. I used to train and compete in Obedience with the first two but lost interest. I found KCGC a handy tool to cover some of the things I would have done in obedience classes. All 5 managed somehow to get their Bronze, Silver and Gold certificates.

I simply would not put my dog through something that makes him so stressed. Whoever is running this class should intervene to make alternative arrangements for the big dog that is making yours so stressed.

The big dog has a sensible owner who removes him from class at times and there is plenty of room, it’s a learning situation and if they were all cute and friendly he wouldn’t be getting that. It’s also good for Rew to be learning that when a dog is being aggressive towards him that he needs to focus on me and not engage back. ?
