So had a good day.doing combined training. The first dressage was pretty shoddy, broke counter canter and very tense. My fault as had only learnt it on the way! Second was a good while later, lots of walking around but when I got in, was going nicely then they realised they had the wrong score sheets! So had to restart..and he got tense
But much better than other I thought. Third out of three though in dressage in class 2.
So, a 1.10m sj course incl. water tray, weird fillers and a double to related distance (2 to 3 strides). He was pinging, absoloutely flying round got a perfect stride to the double and related, then it got faster! Came round the corner to number 6 and held, held, oh bugger no stride! So had that down as I held too much and it was tight. Had the water tray down as he bolted down the line (two more jumps) after that. He was tense after that but managed to contain him to finish with 2 down. Very happy as he was civil and although fast at times much better.
Would have been 5th without those poles
Did the 1m SJ as well after, ended up 2nd (out of 3
) I was the only clear as one person got lost and the other got loads of poles down, but it wasn't as good as he had nothing to back him off and just got faster and faster.
So overall delighted with him.
But, sister entered the new 5yr old in a class. He did his dressage and apart from an attempt at sharp exit left halfway down the centre line, was ok although head in the air and not accurate. Did the jumping, had 3 stops and a pole down due to being green. Fine, it's his first competition and sister was not kicking him on. Went round again and a few poles but ok.
However, decided it didn't look suitable for older sister who needs something to give her confidence. Then..
dear lord..everyone packed up at 2 o'clock. At half past 4 we got him on. HE refused to go on, just stood there. Not upset, nothing, sister went into hysterics
and no, we couldn't use the lunge lines as 'he doesn't like them' and no wallop as it upset him...
So she tried the standing with feed bucket/haynet. It didn't work . WE tried physically pulling and a good smack, no good. Eventually sent sister inside, I pulled, two men with lunge lines and a haynet (he loves his hay) convinced him on. Where he stood like a lamb *** *** ***. So we decided he's not the horse for us, he was only borrowed and is now back at his owners house via a detour. So that spoiled the whole day and now sister is huffing as we insisted on forcing him on.....AGGH
