Can anyone recommend a good dealer in the Berks/Hants/Wilts area? Looking for a mother/son share, would need to be bombproof. Would travel to Sussex & Kent on a good recommendation

I haven't bought a horse in years and never from a dealer, so i could be way off the mark here.

I'm not sure from your post if your a novice owner and its a first time purchase and if it is then I definately wouldn't go down the dealer route. Instead I'd try and look at private sales - ones where you can see them in their usual environment (i.e) at a regular yard, where you can get chance to ride in different circumstances like in a school but also for a hack, on the roads etc to see what the horse is like in a range of circumstances. Its also a good way to speak to other people who may know the horse and what its like to catch, shoe etc. To be honest the best would be word of mouth from someone you can trust but failing that if you go down the private owner route you could ask if you can go back and try them a few times during the course of a week etc.

There was a really lovely forum user on this site a few years ago (called Fish and Chips) whose daughter has aspergers. She had a nightmare trying to find a suitable pony for her daughter and the reality is that people can either deliberately mislead you or can be blind to some faults in their own horse. So if you can get a chance to check out a prospective horse more than once its well worth doing.

Good luck.
