Can anyone recommend some good everyday saddle cloths that wash well and don't cost a fortune?

At the moment I've got a mix of legacy, Horseware & HY ones (crap), a Roma one which is good but the hair doesn't have stick to it and a Mark Todd one I use for XC which is fab but expensive.

I'm looking to chuck most of these in the bin and get some new ones so looking for recommendations - need to wash well as they will get washed often and ideally not too thick as pony get hot easily. Also ideally would like one that doesn't end up with half my pony attached to it when I untack!

Not inexpensive but I wouldn't use anything but Nuumed high wither now. They wash really well and last for years and years so work out inexpensive on a cost per use basis :) There is occassionally a bargain to be had on eBay.

ali2 - I had a numed hi wither and wasn't impressed.

lara b - I've never tried lidls stuff - do most stores always stock it?

Mucky Shavings - never heard of that brand - will have a look

smiffyimp - hmm - mine is covered in hair! But I do like the saddlecloth itself so might just have to accept it's something I have to deal with - where do you buy your Roma ones - I struggle to find them cheap online!

Nuumed high wither for me too :)

I'm another Nuumed fan. They're a bit more expensive, but i love the high wither shape, they wash well and the velcro fastners are easier to attach/detatch the numnah to the saddle.

I don't think you can beat a polypad. Had mine for 5 years now and the colour has stayed despite numerous washes and it's not got any lumps or bumps. Added bonus is just throw them on and no faffing around with velcro straps. I love my polypads...and when they finally do die (or more likely I get bored and want a new one) the dogs love to sleep on them so they continue life as a dog bed!!! :D

I'm interested in this thread, I'm desparate for some more numnahs that don't break the bank and don't drive me potty!

I hate polypads, they slip too much and add too much bulk.

I have a roma one and it doesn't fit at all. Have used it once and it was awful there were huge chunks sticking out in places and other bits where it wasn't coming out beyond the saddle, it also didn't stay up in the gullet.

The only one of mine that I like is one a girl on the yard gave me as it didn't fit her new saddle. It was something like Jumpers choice or jumpers line and the logo has a horse jumping and stars. It fits really well and I'd love a few more.

Haven't tried a NuMed one yet as the price puts me off for a thin numnah/cloth but most people seem to like them.

Although not inexpensive Eskadron are great quality and wash nicely meaning they'll probably last longer than cheap ones.

Jumpers Horse Line :) they are OK.
I like Professionals Choice ones and LeMieux, depending how flush I'm feeling ;)

That'll be the one - thanks, a quick google reveals that they are nice and cheap too! Wonder whether the numnah fits as nicely as the saddle cloth does..... I prefer numnahs normally.

I've just bought a shires one and will be buying more... Have always used expensive german felt ones under my big fellas saddle but these are too thick for my cob... The shires ones look smart and are fairly cheap and sit nicely

nuumed high wither all the way. the plain ones arent that much more expensive, they only get really pricey when you add dead sheep:p I have a plainGP numnah that is about 4 years old, has been used and washed, used and washed and still looks new. Conversely, I have a roma equivalent I bought less than 6 months ago that has gone all bobbly and faded already.

this is the everyday griffin nuumed i have

I think it is pretty well you get what you pay for. I use the HY ones as basic and cheap and find they do the job but love the comfort zone ones but they are nearly 3 times the price as with LeMieux. I think it may depend on the sort of use you need them for - we only do dressage.

Shires ones are my choice for everyday ones. They do fade over time but they fit well and they have velcro on the straps. I hate the ones which don't. They drive me batty!

I've recently bought a couple of Buccas ones and I rate them. Nice colours and wash well. Would have been expensive but I got them on sale.

I really like the Pink Equine ones. They're not too bulky and they don't have that bit that I really hate on saddlepads, the extra stitching/pad thingy on the wither.

Would definitely recommend the Nuumed high wither ones...even if your horse doesn't have high withers it stops the saddlecloth flattening across the withers and back.
