Id love to do an Intermediate and we are qualified (with our novice clears). But obviously would like the "nicest" first intermediate XC there is. Could anyone recommend which (Scottish) courses are good and which probably aren't too kind?

Just looking at what to aim for for next year

maybe auchinleck? have a look at their website as you can do a course walk online under the courses section, that should give you an idea of the photos of the jumps

Scone is quite big and technical and would not recommend as a first.

Floors is big but more straightforward and if your horse really attacks his fences this is the one I would choose.

Hexham (almost Scotland) again has some big old fashioned fences but not technical at all.

Eglinton haven't jumped round this for a few years but was a nice first one and I don't think they make many changes as the years go by!

Auchinleck is an ideal first intermediate.

Scone (2) as scone (1)!

Thirestane - Have not been for years but was big and straightforward last time I was there.

If you cross the border to Aske (just beside scotch corner) it has the best 1st intermediate.

Hope this helps

Thanks thebigman - very useful to see photo's of the course at Auchinleck, wish they all did this! They seem to like their ditches before upright rails, several of those.

Rusty - yeah, Ive seen the track at Scone after doing the PN & novice there this year. The 2 related distance and on the angle trakheners send a chill down me! Thanks for the info on the others.

'fraid we won't be going to any south of the border as it's just too far. I live in the North East of Scotland so rather far to travel...! I dont even venture to southern scotland, although might next year depending on a good intermediate etc.!
