Just about to have our new stables built and will be converting part of one our sheds into a tack room. I'll be putting in the usual things like saddle racks but are there any other useful things I should think about putting in? It was years ago when we fitted out the tack room at my mums so I'm sure there are new time/labour-saving type things available now?

There is a line of box seating against the wall in mine, with hinged lids under the cushions- stacks of storage for rugs and other kit.

Oooo I love this sort of question. Having just moved to a lovely new yard here are some things the YO and I have done with our tack room.

Set of free standing metal shelves (about £40 Amazon) Great for neatly folded stable rugs, fleeces numnahs etc.

Hangers for t/o rugs.

Good idea for seats with storage under.

Cheap pastic draw sets (homebase etc), for boots, bandages, first aid etc.

Small shelf for keeping hats on, and hooks underneath body protectors etc.

Small area by door for muddy boots and hooks for wet coats.

Bucket/rack by door for last minute picking up whips etc.

Also, because I lunge frequently, I have a plastic lidded box that has all my lunge stuff in to just pick up and go.

We also have on the wall a dispenser for paper towel (those blue roll things you see in some public loos). Great to have on hand something to wipe your hands on quickly.

I also have a collection of old towels cut up to about bear mat size, that I use to clean of wet muddy legs and generally dry things of along with a tub trug that I put all the dirty ones in and then they all get washed together.

Enjoy your new space.

One of the 3 pronged bridle cleaning hooks suspended from the ceiling at an appropriate height

A work top surface with a plug for kettle etc

An oil filled radiator or heating! Our tack room gets dreadfully cold and damp and our tack goes mouldy. My grandparents have a radiator in theirs that gets put on for a bit on damp days and they have never had a problem with mouldy tack. Also good for drying your gloves on!

Hanging hooks on back of tack room door so can hang each part of bridle up when cleaning it!

I think they are the screw in picture hooks we use
