Maybe i'm just trying to convince myself its Summer (given the weather outside!) But I need to do some fly rug shopping.

The horses are kept next to a water source and a hay field- so that means lots of flies and invasions of midges. One pony has sweetitch and I want one for my other horse to just keep him comfortable as he gets very annoyed by them.

What rug would you recommend? I started looking and there are so many fly rugs that all look the same, I just got confused and turned to HHO for help :D

I have a wetherbeeta one that is silver, so reflects the sun. He is black and it does actually keep him cool. I was wary of using a fly rug before as I didn't want him to get hot under it, but its fine. We have streams and woods around the fields at our current place so had to get one in the end, and I'm glad I did.

Not that it's seen the light of day so far this year!

I have a premier equine one, cant remember the name (they have a few) but its a silver one, very cool and big tail flap. I needed it for my gypsy cob as his mane makes him very hot under a fly rug.
for sweet itch though I use a Masta Bug rug got it for £40 without the face mask (pony wont keep hers on, will prefer to rip her face open with it on, leaves face alone without one...) from equestrian clearance. she's black and I have no problems with it. its so light weight I can take it off her on a nice day, wash it quick whilst she's in, dry it and put it back on. her last one lasted the whole summer and only ripped on the gate hook in the autumn (my daughters fault for not opening the gate properly).
both companies were great to deal with and both arrived very quick (within 2 days):)

I have the Rambo sweet itch hoody, I have two one to alternate so I can wash one when needed, they have lasted for 6 years, and as I have a rug destroyer that's really good, they repair quite well too.

The premier equine "super lite" rug is incredible! Exactly what it says on the label, VERY lightweight and my horse never overheats in it. Lovely fit & design too - they've brought one out which now has a showerproof top to it to protect against summer showers which is handy for our weather ;) I wouldn't recommend it if you have a rug destroyer as due to its light material it is fairly delicate, but it really is a fab rug - and completely non-static which is a huge plus!

WeatherBeeta Kool Coats are pretty good, hardwearing tough cotton but mine have never over-heated in them even when the sun does actually come out.....

Thanks for the replies, I'll take a look at them all.

The weather really is terrible! I had mine out in light-med weight combos, brought them in to find them cold :( so they are out in medium weights.. it's nearly June !!
