Park at brendon stud on the a23 then the whole downs are your oyster. You can be out for an hour or a day! You pay a donation per rider (I think we decided £4, but it may have been a suggested donation) at the charity tub in the tack shop. There's always goring beach which I think is the local riding legal beach, but we tend to go to Climping at littlehampton.

You can park in the lane near Foredown Tower (Foredown Road) in Portslade, and follow the track onto the downs all the way to Devils Dyke and the South Downs way. Also you can park in the lane near Mile Oak Farm, Portslade and ride to the downs from there. There are also car parks with no height restrictions on Mill Hill in Shoreham, and you can ride to the South Downs Way and Truleigh Hill from there.

For the beach riding we go to Lancing, horses are allowed anytime Oct-March or before 10am and after 7pm other times. You need to go at low tide or there is no sand! Parking is on side roads and you have to cross the A259 but the drivers are quite helpful and usually stop to let you cross.

You can also park at the Windmills car park on the A273 (road to Hassocks from Pycombe), just off the A23.

There is a layby at Firle you can park at and you can ride through Firle village and go up top. If you turn off the main road, then take the first left. The road is not the one going into the Firle Estate but alongside. There is one smaller layby on the left, then past that there is another bigger layby further on, also on the left, opposite a house. Just clean up any mess, the owners are fine with parking, just ask that mess is taken away. Hack back along the road, past the entrance to the Estate and through the village. At the back of the village there is a road/track that goes along the bottom of the downs (can't remember the name) and you can choose your route up from anywhere along there. Wouldn't ride up the road - it is boring, much nicer to take a track up.

You can also park at Plumpton College if you give them a ring and check. Think they charge a fiver, but not entirely sure about the deal there.
