I'm without a horse at the moment, but what to be fit and ready for when I find one I would like to buy.
Does anyone know any good training centres you can go to in the Beds/Northants/Cambs/Herts area? where they have decent schoolmaster, dressage horses?

Contessa Riding Centre near Ware in Herts has some very advanced dressage schoolmasters etc. It is run by dressage rider Tina Layton-Elliot.

I rode there for a couple of years until I moved out of the area. I had great fun and good tuition there (although I was nowhere near the standard to ride the higher level horses!)

Their website is www.contessa-riding.co.uk

Any particular Instructor I should ask for? competing to Novice level, but would like to progress as quickly as poss by having 2 lessons a week

Yes if you want to be treated like a muppet, have instructors who are totally dis-interested and you pay £40 to ride a horse that you have to boot most of the lesson to get it to move.
I think o.k. place if you are learning to ride, not if you can already ride.
