Hi,

My young boy is a bit stiff in the mornings, more noticable after harder work/schooling sessions. He can be stiff at the start of training, but eases after a canter. Its not bad, just noticeable.

He is a big lad, described as having "a lot of timber on him" full up 16hh2

I am going to try him on a joint suppliment to help him out, can anyone recommend a good one, there are soooooooooo many out there!

Thinking of combining this with an oil, 3 oils, cod liver oil?

Any recommendations welcome.

Thanks

Not used any myself, but seen several different horses on several different suppliments with a disinterested eye (i.e. not my horses!) and the one which I thought made the most noticable difference was the TopSpec one.

I've been impressed with Cortaflex. My vet recommended Newmarket Joint Supplement but it didn't seem to have any effect on him. To be fair though I use it mainly as a preventitive so I was surprised to see any real difference in stride length.

I suspect that it's down to individuals so you may just have to try a few to see what suits him. Start with the cheaper ones first!

I use Extraflex HA on my horse who has spavin. Have tried others, such as the best known one on the market. This extraflex HA has given me much better results with my horse. I use the optimum rather than maintenance rate.

Cairo who is an old boy with low ringbone is doing very well on instant linseed and Equine America Glucosamine 10,000 plus MSM - Contains 10,000 mg of 99% pure Glucosamine Hydrochloride plus 1650mg of MSM per 30 grams. Cheaper than cortaflex and I find combined with the instant linseed is for Cairo more effective than cortaflex is.

I tried Cortaflex and didnt notice a difference, but then tried Easy Joint from Equiform nutrition and he is brill on it.... not as dear as the others and it must taste good coz he licks the bucket for ages to get it all out!!!

He has arthritis and has now been described as sound enough to pass a 5 stage vetting!!!!!!
