A bit of a pointless post really but I wondered if many of you did/think along the same lines as me.
So.....
Had the Farrier out and when he was done, I thought do I keep the old shoes or through them away, (first time I have ever seen or been around when a horse was get shod!! And she is my FIRST ever Loan pony)
Anyway, I remember being told when I was young by my good old nan that horse shoes bring good luck so I kept them, well I need all the good luck I can get!! And everylittle helps!! Anyone else done the same? Or am I even madder than I already thought I was!hehe!!

I think that horse people are probably the most supersticious (sp) in the world. I do wonder if this is to give us an illusion of being in control of some of the events in our lives! It is nice to keep at least one shoe from each horse you have (unless you swap a lot) We keep our horses until their end so they are momentoes of the good times. Enjoy your first horse.

blimey if i kep all the old shoes of all the horses ive had, theyd be no rrom left in the house 4 me!!! but, great thing to keep one set of each horse, esp ur first one, always special

i kept the first set the farrier took off when i brought her caz they were appaling and i keep them as a reminder of how poor she was when i got her. now shes plumpish and happy!

Thanks guys, at least I know Im not losing the plot as my other half said!! Trouble is where to put them, wanted one above my front door but OH said 'it aint to lucky if it falls off and hits someone on the head'!! which is fair comment! xx

SpottedCat, i've done just the same thing, painted a nice tidy old shoe silver, then threaded pretty ribbon through, and given it to friends on their wedding days. the bride's face when she takes it and registers the weight (yep, it's a real one, not a plastic one from a shop!) is usually a picture. the friends i've given them to, are still happily married many years later....
