Good news from vet re Pidge and his hock spavin

Well finally managed to speak to vet yesterday re Pidge and his hock spavin. Vet (and me

) are both very pleased with the way Pidge has come back to work and he has now given me the all clear to introduce faster work and jumping gradually of course

though may have to have words with Pidge on these points

He has dropped him to 1/2 satchet of bute a day and there will be another review in 2 months time. So am a very happy mummy and weather permitting will have a go at a couple of small fences this evening

Just wanted to post some happy news and let people know how Pidge is getting on since his diagnosis and treatment.
P.S. We can now also do leg yielding and shoulder in at trot

but we can't quite manage sane canter on the left leg yet but hey ho

Feeling sorry for themselves!

They should take a leaf out of Pidge's book and stop being soft, so pleased for you, I know its been an ordeal and a worry.
 
thanks, am not sure it will be fun though as he hasn't jumped for 2 months (bar 2 very small cross poles last weekend - naughty mummy just couldn't resist

) so may have no brakes as he gets a tad keen anyway and after so much time off.............................. Am a bit worried though due to the extra pressure on his hocks when jumping, does anyone know how much extra pressure jumping puts them under? I don't jump big and consider 2'6" big and only to be tackled on a really good day

did you try the intrasite in the end?
I feel like a weight has been lifted

Thats great. My boy was diagnosed with a hock spavin in Jan 2006 - remedial shoeing, magnetic hock boot, MSM supplements and regular work have helped and he has been sound since he came back into work. We compete as if there is no spavin and he quite happily pops 3.3/3.6 and his flat work is better than ever.

I think the trick is to listen to your horse...Pidge will tell you how much he can do

I havent tried it yet, Ive been keeping him in during the day away from the flies, and jsut keeping it clean, I will take a piccy of it today so you can see how its coming along, its the possible scarring Im worried about, we were planning on doing some showing over the summer.

hmm is the skin coming together yet? If you get a picture that would be good as there are bound to be people on here who can give some advice, what about contacting henryhorn as I'm sure she uses something that has honey in it that is supposed to be fab on wounds?
 
I will get a piccy this afternoon after Ive been to the hospital, no the skin isnt coming together yet but the swelling has more or less gone.

The vet coudlnt stitch as the flesh was literally ripped away, people have suggested Camrosa, but Im a bit wary!

Anyway Im hijacking your good news thread LOL, so I will post a piccy later on tonight.

Im just fof to see her in about 2mins, she had the results back from her second scan and it confirmed the type of tumour they thought it was.

Should find out today what they are going to do, she will be getting an operation.

Hopefully I will know more tonight, speaking of which Ive gotta go!

didn't jump in the end last night as outdoor school resembled a bog and indoor isn't really suitable for jumping as can be a bit slippy. So am aiming for a couple this afternoon weather permitting and then am going tomorrow to Somerford Park Winter Ride with sis and L154XX so will hopefully pop a few of the jumps there, but will restrict myself to just a few as don't want to overdo it
