Following my post last week about a tendon knock, I have very very good news. Having treated the swollen leg, hot, cold etc, etc. I then left it with just a stable bandage on. AND guess what when I took the bandage off there was a lump of pus on the bandage......... Never been so delighted to see this. It must have been a thorn or a little bit of gorse bush & not a knock at all. I have poulticed it and he is on anti-biotics & the leg is now 100% back to normal. A miracle dont you think!!!!!!!!!
Also whilst on the subject of good news. This same horse has had a rash down his side all summer. I have tried various things: hibiscrub, fly rug on at all times, no rug (in case it was a heat rash) but to no avail. So, last weekend showed it to our friend & neighbour who is a vet. He didnt have a clue but went off to look in a book!!! Low & behold he found something that exactly fitted the bill & the treatment was a course of steroids. We didnt fancy this much as the rash is mild & the horse busy competing. SO we tried a dog skin spray & it has worked.....how clever.
