I have mixed news for you all!

I am no longer moving the boy onto my dad's land, instead...he wants me to move my NF fillies out! Whats more is that my NF gelding is coming back off loan so all of a sudden I have 4 homeless ponies!

HOWEVER...I have found a nice patch of land with a gate right onto a forest, in a nice area, very flat and very dry :D There isn't much grass (It's that funny sandy, common soil)...but that is okay I suppose..There is a lovely field shelter, water and an old stable for all my stuff! I am SOOO happy and very excited! (and most importantly, the girl I am renting it from is lovely!)

SO! What to I need to buy? I have got rid of all my old stuff since I have been on livery :( I have already bought buckets, and topped up my first aid kit, any other suggestions, I like buying new things, it is VERY exciting! :D

I hope Jack settle down okay, he has ALWAYS lived in at night, I have a feeling he might take up permanent residence in the field shelter!

Positive vibes and tips & ideas please!! :D:D:D

That's great, hopefully they'll be happy there :) Regards to shopping, do you have mucking out tools, so wheelbarrow, fork etc. If not you could either get a wheelbarrow or just use tub trugs to poo pick into but it would take you longer as you'd have to make more trips back and forth with them. Can't really think of anything else atm but good luck with the move :)

If you dont already have hard feed storage and need it I would probably get metal bins - I did store feed bags inside similar to that box indoors but the mice found it eventually! I bought some big feed bins ani-mate ones off eBay - cheap compared to others and they are brill :) and next day delivery. You would probably be okay storing rugs in that type of box if putting it undercover I used to before I bought shelving and smaller rug boxes to separate them. I wouldnt buy a B&Q one as they are expensive for what they are and the bottoms fall out regularly in my experience! I know some people use plastic wheelie bins for feed or even rugs as a cheaper option.

Aside from that if post and rail fencing- hammer, nails and some spare planks of wood!

If you don't already have a hay/haylage supplier it may be a good idea to source one now and figure out how much you can store if you are going down that route instead of buying from a feed store. Even if you don't need it now its always good to have a couple of numbers on your phone :).

Does the paddock have it's own water supply to a trough or is there a tap? Be prepared these may freeze overnight so if there is electric a kettle is a must (refilled the night before) to boil and then pour over frozen piping in the morning to get them defrosted. If there is no electric it might be a case of carrying thermoflasks full of boiling water from home! Also if no electric you may want to consider a powerful battery operated lamp to hang in your stable store and also a powerful torch.

I can't think of much else except perhaps electric fencing if you need to separate them? If so then a good charger (I like a solar one for general use, but also have a backup standard battery for when it's really dark over winter days.). If so a voltage tester to test the whole fence is working is probably a good idea :)

Hope that helps a little and that the horses enjoy their new home :D

ETA - winter is the hardest being on your own land with frozen pipes, less daylight etc but come spring everything gets so much easier :)

Just looked up the Ani-mate ones, they look fab, thanks for that! :) I hate my normal dustbins that I have at the mo! Can you fit a bag of feed in each section do you know?

With regard to the fencing, it has a high 7ft wire fence all the way round on big telegraph poles, and it is already sectioned off with electric tape (which is staying there) which saves me ALOT of hassle because my tape is in various fields at the yard I'm at atm!

Yeah I have been thinking about hay, I can get it reasonably priced and delivered, but would have to keep it outside under tarpaulin, which isn't ideal!

I don't think there is any electric, a lamp is a very good idea indeed! I have also invested in a head torch :D

Luckily for me the spring is on it's way (I hope!!), I'm actually looking forward to poo-picking after work! Sad huh... ;)

sounds like you are pretty much all sorted :D. Yes my grass re-emerged today from the snow, it was wonderful! Non-horsey family must think Im mad getting excited about the grass reemerging and snow disappearing, but it just makes life so much easier and also proper riding can resume yay!

Haha now I do think that is strange :p I HATE poopicking, used to have to do it at livery but once we'd moved them to their new home no more :D :D fortunately we have enough land here for the amount of horses to harrow and rest the fields after moving them on to the next :). Strangely I don't mind mucking out though :) and love putting down big fluffy straw beds :D.
