I am so so pleased, after many "chats" about me getting my own horse my Hubby finally agreed that I can have one in about six months time!!

Well, actually, he said he would would buy me my own horse if I don't use our joint bank account for any of my day to day stuff for six months, as that will show him that he won't need to be forking out for the horse when it comes!!! Wey hey!!! Nothing like an incentive hey, I am terribly guilty of using our joint account as a top up to my own money you see!

Just a shame that I have found what looks like my perfect horse for sale now!!:rolleyes:

I am glad that you can look forward to getting your own horse, and I do appreciate that often men earn more than women, but maybe you need to take more control of your own money. I'd hate my husband telling me what I could and couldn't buy.

I knew I would get this response!! Please don't worry about Women's Lib or anything like that, everyone who knows us knows who wears the trousers in our house!!;)

I actually earn more than him but we put the same into our house/bills etc. He doesn't tell me what I can and can't buy, woebetide him if he did;) I have been talking about getting my own horse for a while, his response is "you can't afford it at the moment" which is perfectly true and he doesn't want "our" money to be used on "my" hobby. Perfectly fair and reasonable as I don't want him spending "our" money on his fun stuff!

"Luckily" for us he had a horrendous injury a while ago so now has a not insignificant insurance payout. I jokingly asked him to buy me a horse, we had a laugh about it, he said no, I said "well it won't stop me asking";), then a serious chat which led to his offer to buy me one, once I'm sure I'll be able to fund it.

I try to see all this in a positive light and not get too worried about being a meek and feeble female cowtowing to my husband because we worked out togther a solution!!

Tillypup I think you are very very clever. You have managed to find a way to get your husband invovled in your horse project, very well done. And clearly, in his own way, he was pointing out that horses can be a money pit and you have to be able to control the cost.

My OH adores our horses and that makes life so so much nicer, so I just hope that for 6 months you can avoid the dreaded financial 'drift' and find yourself with a fabulous new friend!!

Thanks! Sums it up pretty well I think!!

Yes, now have to be careful careful careful and make sure I know exactly where the pennies go (my biggest fault by far!!) Also, I've got six months to save a little bit to help pay for the horse when it does arrive!! I know how much DIY livery is where we will be keeping the horse, so I planned to save at least that each month in readiness!! Hubby is already preparing his sewing machine for rug repairing duties!!:D

Good for you!

And while on the subject I do think that it's only right that the decision to buy something as "big" as a horse should be a joint decision with the OH! After all, our OH's would be the ones to pick up the pieces if we lost our jobs or had a bad injury, etc, and to have them on side when the decision is made to buy one is crucial. They have to tolerate us being out all hours looking after the horses and coming home shedding straw and hay and smelling slightly less than is pleasant and obsessing about rugs, etc. At least if they were supportive of the plan to buy one in the first place, knowing all it entails, they can't really moan.

I'd never buy a horse without my OH's support! But at the same time I know he'd never say I couldn't have one without a very good reason (and he'd never outright say "no", he'd just reason with me to dissuade me and I'd listen).
