Last week my old mare Esme who is in foal galloped through a gate, got caught and managed to rip her side open and break a rib (taking the metal fixings with her!!). Luckily someone saw her do it so she had immediate help and was in surgery an hour later. As you can probably imagine it was touch and go and we were told to forget about the foal and just to concentrate on Es (as the Vet put it without the mare there is no foal!).
Being the tuff girlie she is she is making a fantastic recovery which is good news in itself but I have just had a call to say they just scanned her STILL IN FOAL!!!! The Vet says the foal has a good strong heartbeat... IM SOOOOOO HAPPY....
They are not out the woods yet but things are looking up!!!!
