Hi Peeps,

Haven't been on for a while, but hope all are well!!
Anyway.... My dilemma....

I met up with a friend of mine a week back, catch up on old time etc, and she has put forward the following:

She has her own yard, and 1 horse. she now wants to get a small cob type (14.2hh) to keep her horse company (her horse is fine with or without company)
She wants to spend about £2000, for your basic Heniz 57 type, and has said I could full loan the horse from her for £25 a week. She will do ALL stable duties etc, as she is retired so has the time.

Great you hear you say.... Yes, but here is my problem...
The lady is great and I get on well with her, problem is she changes her mind so often!! One minute she wants her horses legs clipped, then she doesn't... One minute she wants another horse, the next she doesn't... I mean she will change her mind within 24 hrs!
Last year, she bought a 3 yr old unbacked youngster, and said I could take her on full loan.... then with in 3 months she sold her - I wasn't really given notice either!

My OH says don't even go there, as he doesn't want to see me get attached to a horse, and then have it taken away from me - which I don't either!!

I would jump at the opportunity had it'd been with anyone else, but its only down to the things that have happened in the past that makes me think twice!!

what would you guys say or do??? I have told her that if we do go ahead, we WILL have a contract drawn up!!

Hiya!

I used to have to deal with someone like this and I have to say, they never change. You've lost out once before and IMHO I think she will do it again!

Even if you have a contract, she may still go ahead and sell the horse again without notice, and then you are left to fight it out. Contracts make no difference to some people and you will be left deciding whether you can face taking it all the way to court, and if you don't want to then it was a pointless exercise.

Sorry to sound negative, but the realist in me says steer clear, save your money and look for another opportunity.

Good luck!!

I am afraid to say I agree with everyone else - I'd steer clear - its heartbreaking when you have bonded with a horse and then it is taken away from you.

My gut feeling is to take it all with huge pinch of salt, especially if you've had experience of this before - it's not worth the disappointment if it all falls through again...
