Hi I have a super dressage horse that is now ready for backing and after a lot of soul searching I found a Spanish chap who classically trains and desensitises horses in a way i really could get on board with (pun not intended but apt) and she was going in 2 weeks time. he has now managed to damage himself fairly seriously - not horse related (how selfish is that🥴) and Its not clear how long he will be off for … im considering other alternatives (one of which is do it myself but im not as young as once i was and this girl is big and moves big too) any recommendations… more interested in her being shown lots of stuff than getting on with dressage training and i am not aiming her at age classes as i want her to go the distance… im based in cheshire and have good facilities but am equally prepared to send her somewhere else…

Try AE equestrian , they are based in Whitchurch. Genuinely lovely people . They’ve backed one of mine and a few others owned by people I know . They are well thought of

Friends of mine use Richard, based half way between Middlewich and Sandbach. They seem quiet and competent. The three horses I've seen have been well started by the looks of them. I'm there tomorrow at a group lesson if you want me to find out his contact details. He's an eventer, got a huge arena so no need to drill circles.

I think you're quite local to me so I can recommend Georgie Brown if you want someone to come to you. She used to break in for Andrew Downes and now rides for Hannah Bate and Paul Sims but does a fair bit of freelance on green, problem and breakers too. She rode Ace for me when I was ill and took him from barely steering round a school in walk and trot to prelim ready (and bloody hell could he buck before he learned his balance). And her approach isn't to "produce a dressage horse" but will show them a bit of life to prep them for being a grown up.
If you are who I think you are Alex @ MM will be able to tell you more. If I've got the wrong person ignore me on this bit though.

If you would care to elucidate a bit how your Spanish chap works, maybe by PM, I MAY be able to direct you to a South African guy of interest. Alternatively, Tanglewood Farm in Leics would be one recommendation for a more considered, but traditional approach. Also, the guy in Leics (or his son) who produced the horses that Prince Charles hunted....he long reins his youngsters 'the world over' and they are amazing as far as 'seeing the world' goes....not a dressage rider though. His name escapes me at the moment....old age....but I - or you - could get it via Vere Philipps.
